Ayushmann Khurrana is a rare gem in the Punjabi music industry, for he is better known for his super-hit singles than his acting career. After the huge success of “O Heeriye”, “Ik Vaari”, “Mitti Di Khushboo” and “Yahaan Hoon Main” in the recent years, he has returned with another classic single by the name of “Chan Kitthan” with an unusual love story where the leading protagonist sticks with his beloved even in her darkest times.

The beautiful romantic number is a soft recreated version of Bhushan Kumar’s old Punjabi ghazal of the same name. The song is sung by Ayushmann Khurrana, who features in the video opposite his on-screen love interest Pranitha Subhash. The lyrics have been penned by Kumaar, and the music has been composed by Rochak Kohli. The background music has been performed have been performed by Rochak Kohli, Mohit Dogra, Namit Das and Shriram Sampat. The video has been directed by Suresh Triveni, under T-Series.

In the music video, Khurrana plays the role of a respected police offer whose beloved has been accused of a crime. The scene pans out with the couple holding each other’s hands on a foggy mountain top, and quickly moves to the scene where Pranitha’s character is escorted by the police to be taken to the police station. The video takes us through the beautiful locations of the Himalayas, the greenery and the snow-capped mountains. We are occasionally taken back to the olden times of their relationship – at a drug rehabilitation centre, where Pranitha works as a volunteer; enjoying momos at the roadside; and, what has led up to Pranitha’s arrest and Khurrana’s reaction to the same.

Khurrana’s songs, though in Punjabi, seem strangely eloquent and soothing even to non-Punjabi speakers. Pranitha Subhash, who is a well-known actress in the Kannada, Telugu and Tamil movie industry, has effectively portrayed the role of a woman in distress. Khurrana has perfected the thin line of acting a true police offer in public, and a loving partner in private. In all, the protagonists complement each other in the music video.

If you’re searching for some soulful Punjabi music that truly speaks of love and support, you should definitely check out this song.
