An open and accepting work culture is a necessity for a successful career. According to Glassdoor, 67 per cent of job seekers say that when evaluating companies and job offers, it is important to them that the company has a diverse workforce.

A diverse work place is important not only for the employee, but also for the company. Such cultures increase innovation, creativity, employee commitment, customer alignment.

Research reports that fears of disclosure of sexual orientation have an overwhelmingly negative relationship for the employee at workplace. In the midst of “War of Talent”, it would be foolish to lose out on potential due to a parochial work culture.

Companies like Sodexo and Johnson and Johnson support a very inclusive environment. Randstand also has been studied as a success for a very advanced and inclusive environment for different sexual orientations.

Google also has a very pro-minority work culture. It provides accepting work environs for all queer and bisexual orientations. It encourages its employees to participate in pride marches.

While Google has nick names for all types of employees like noogler for new joinee, xoogler for ex-googler and gaygler for gay employees. That’s how embracing the culture is for diversity.

Apple CEO Tim Cook himself openly came out as gay. Apple even covers insurance for same-sex couples.

Microsoft has employee action committees for people with different sexual orientation.

So while society may be slow in understanding and accepting bisexuality, the corporates are moving a step ahead.
