Suhana’s Vogue Feature: Another Suhana Opportunity For Making Money?

While the N word is back, how justified is it?

It’s not been a long time since Bollywood and the world witnessed the N word (read Nepotism). I remember that blasphemous episode with Kangana Ranaut on the hot seat. But little did we know that it would shape the course of things in the near future so massively. Look around you – it’s raining nepotism in Bollywood. Sara Ali Khan will soon feature in Simmba, Bonney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor is a big face now along with Shahid’s cousin Ishaan, thanks to Dhadak. Sallu bhai is working tirelessly to launch his brother-in-law in Loveratri. Karan Johar is brewing another hot cuppa of SOTY 2 and guess what ingredients will he be using – Ananya (Chunkey Pandey’s daughter) and Tiger Shroff who by now needs no introduction. Recently the fashion bible – Vogue released its August issue and guess who appears on the cover? Oh, you already know, I forgot! Its SRK’s 18 year old talented and famous daughter Suhana Khan. But wait, how do we even know that she is talented?

In my opinion her talent is her genes. She is SRK’s daughter and needs no credentials to justify her face appearing in one of the greatest and most popular fashion magazines. Is she a fashion icon? Is she even an actress? Have we ever seen her on screen doing anything at all?! I think Vogue could have chosen my neighbor’s uncle’s younger daughter and we still wouldn’t be this furious. What is even worse is Suhana, a completely innocent person in this regard is placed at the eye of the storm and is facing the outrage of the internet for no fault of her own. I sympathize with her but I cannot help but curse this practice of nepotism.

The star treatment that Suhana is receiving because she is SRK’s daughter is equivalent to a scholarship received by a person just because his/her father was an overachiever. What more, the cover already says, she is a “future star” along with being a student and theater lover! Of course, Suhana’s face will make a lot of money, my neighbor’s uncle’s younger daughter won’t. Their star genes and the audience’s curiosity will make Vogue a more successful magazine than it already is, and people who weren’t born with silver spoons or a privileged surname will be forgotten.

There’s no point wasting time debating Nepotism regarding Suhana’s feature on Vogue

If students are now featuring on Vogue why not the thousands of others who may be better than Suhana at what they are doing. Debate on nepotism, as intriguing and inviting as it may seem will lead us nowhere. It will only create more chaos and more opinions. We live in a world where star kids will remain star kids, where we cannot do away with films, magazines and music, even when we know that people appearing in these haven’t done anything significant to earn it.

So, if your father is a Chartered Accountant you may as well hope you feature in the ICAI cover. Besides, this incident with Vogue is “suhana” for business after all. You cannot choose your parents but you can choose whether you want to buy the issue of Vogue or not!
