Know All About Labh Janjua - The Guy Who Sang London Thumakda

Labh Janjua, the talented Bhangra and hip-hop singer is the man behind many hit songs in Bollywood but unfortunately, he did not receive the fame and credit he deserved. He was the man behind hit songs like “London Thumakda” from Queen (2013) and “Jee Karda” from Singh is Kinng (2008). Let us try and tell you about this singer who deserved much more than what he got.

He was born in a Sikh Rajput family and got his initial knowledge of music from Kirtans attended by his grandfather. He pursued music from his childhood and won several awards for the same. He was brought up in a village named Majira near Khanna in Ludhiana, Punjab. He got his formal training in music from a well-known teacher the late Jaswant Bhanwra.

He shot to fame after singing the hit Punjabi song “Mundian To Bach ke” produced by Punjabi MC. This same song has been now remixed to create the “Mundiyan” song from Tiger Shroff’s recent release, Baaghi 2 (2018). Then owing to luck, and a call from Jackie Shroff he came to Bollywood and started his journey.

Since then he lent his voice to around 136 Hindi and Punjabi songs, including Bollywood hits like “Soni De Nakhre” from Partner (2007), “Hikknaal” from Dev D (2009), “Pyaar Karke” from Pyaar k Side Effects (2006) and “Dance pe Chance” from Rab ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) to name a few. Apart from singing, he also tried his skills in acting in some Punjabi films like London Di Heer and Kudi 420.

Unfortunately our film industry lost this musician on 22nd October, 2015. He was reportedly at his Goregaon residence when he was found dead. Even though Bollywood offered condolences on social media, very few turned up in the hospital where only a few of his friends were present till his wife arrived in the evening.

Labh was survived by his wife, his father and an eight-year-old son. The sudden demise was a shock to the entire industry and his family and we can only imagine what more hot and peppy numbers he could have given the industry had he been still there with us. Punjabi music always being among the top trending in the music charts, this was an irreplaceable loss for the industry and music lovers alike.
