Here’s Why Teens Are Eating Tide Detergent As A Social Media Challenge

These ‘Tide’ like donuts are a healthier replacement to eating detergent!

Teens and young adults have reportedly got a new favourite dish to eat – the Tide detergent!

If trends are to be believed, a dangerous new ‘challenge’ has surfaced on social media that is encouraging teens and in some cases young adults to eat the Tide detergent pack.

While this is definitely a scary issue, employees at a donut chain decided to bring out their own safer and edible take on this trend. The Tide Pod donut, which has been named after the ridiculous challenge that has become one of the scariest social media challenges after the Blue Whale game, aims at giving kids and young adults a food product that looks like the Tide pack, and is not as dangerous as eating detergent for real.

Is there really nothing more exciting and adventurous out there that can get your eyeballs and fuel up you grey cells? And are kids actually doing this?

The first thing that came to my mind was – how is this challenge actually happening for real? I mean, are our teens and young adults really so out of their mind that now they are eating packs of detergent for fun and adventure?

Seems so! According to data released by the American Association of Poison Control Centers, there were 39 cases relating to intentional misuse reported amongst teens between 13 and 19 years within the first two weeks this year. This number was 50 in all of last year. The comparison is scary for sure.

Imagine I have to take part in this challenge.

I go to my laundry area, take up the pack of Tide (or am I also allowed to eat any other detergent?) and start eating it up. I’m just imagining how the first bite will feel. Will I feel like a washing machine? Will I start to bubble up already? Will I look cleaner?

I am being weird now.

And no, this is not funny.

Kids, teens, young adults – grownups, especially your parents, have enough to deal with already. So spare them the trouble of dealing with someone they dearly love, but who fails to see how risky this entire thing can be.

What did you learn today? Don’t eat detergent, eat donuts (avoid both if possible, health issues at stake here).
