Alia Bhatt’s Growth As An Actor – From Sangharsh To Gully Boy

The diverse roles of Alia Bhatt and the times she stunned us with her performance

The list of Bollywood actors who have starred in movies as kids is vast. Sana Saeed the younger Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hain is included in this list as well whose role in Student of the Year (2012) made your jaws drop. And we all know who else debuted in that same movie, don’t we? Yes, Alia Bhatt, it is! This actress who was first seen as a child actress in Sangharsh has clearly come a long way. On her 25th birthday today, (15th March, 2018) here’s a look at some of the most iconic characters portrayed by Alia:

Ananya Swaminathan from Two States (2014)

Alia is easy, natural and fresh in the movie

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name, Alia portrayed the character of Ananya Swaminathan, a South Indian girl hailing from a conservative family who falls in love with Krish, a Punjabi boy played by Arjun Kapoor. Not only does Alia look beautiful in extravagant South Indian sarees and the gajra but she is a surprise in the movie. The evolution from Shanaya in SOTY to Ananya has been quite interesting and remarkable, to say the least.

Veera Tripathi from Highway (2014)

The simplicity of Alia’s character in Highway is bound to move you

Veera Tripathi has won our hearts. Alia’s role in this movie has been the center of critical attention for quite some time now. After being kidnapped she develops Stockholm syndrome and recalls tales of a troubled and abusive childhood. It is so much more than a typical romantic drama. Alia’s role adequately drives home this point alongside Randeep Hooda who perfected the Haryanvi accent with such precision!

Kumari Pinky from Udta Punjab (2016)

Alia plays the role of a migrant worker in the movie

Abhishek Chaubey’s black comedy-crime movie Udta Punjab portrays the rampant drug abuse amongst the youth. Alia Bhatt delivers an amazing and virtuoso performance. She has adequately toned down her girlish charms and innate cuteness to represent the susceptibility and vulnerability faced by a Bihari migrant worker who is hopelessly trapped in a drug lord’s mansion.

Kaira from Dear Zindagi (2016)

Kaira (Alia’s character) speaks to and for an entire generation in the movie

If you are hoping for some soul searching, you should be at the receiving end of Alia Bhatt’s powerful punch in this movie. Gauri Shinde’s movie contains a brilliant message and Alia emerges as the spokesperson. Kaira is every woman today, caught in a web of dysfunctional relationships, struggling to find a way out of silly fears, unnecessary worries and frailties of life, and finally does so too with a little help from Dr. Jehangir Khan (played by SRK).

She is presently preoccupied with her upcoming ventures. Her next would be Raazi, where she stars opposite Vicky Kaushal, the Masaan actor. It is all set to release on 11th May this year (2018). After Raazi, Alia will be seen in Gully boy opposite Ranveer Singh. Gully Boy is apparently a musical drama and will be released sometime in 2019. Alia’s journey from the small girl in Sangharsh to the amazing woman she has become today is inspiring. We wish her a happy 25th and all the best for her future!
