Bollywood Celebrities Who Have Played Ghosts In Movies

The friendly and the creepy ghosts played by Bollywood stars

The Indian audience loves horror in movies, and Bollywood has taken extreme pains to research and exploit the genre to its suspense-loving viewers. There are many who have taken a special liking to the field, and the actors are too happy to portray themselves on the screen as souls and spirits. Horror in Bollywood has moved way beyond the eerie sounds, the women clad in white saris and haunted houses. From being a strange, terrifying character to playing a friendly spirit, here are five celebrities who have done justice to their role as ghosts.

Parineeti Chopra In Golmaal Again (2017)

The well-known slapstick comedy franchise had a scary twist this time. Parineeti Chopra was seen playing the role of Khushi the ghost. The movie stars the original Golmaal team – Ajay Devgn, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu. Khushi has a tendency to enter people’s bodies, which brings on the various spirit-defying techniques in full flow in the other characters. A new addition to the Golmaal family, Parineeti’s cute avatar definitely adds to the adorable ghost factor.

Anushka Sharma In Phillauri (2017)

Phillauri can be better categorized as a horror-romantic movie, due to its sweet-and-simple plot. Anushka as Shashi is not your typical ghost, and instead makes you feel her pain and sense of betrayal in the movie.

Emraan Hashmi In Raaz Reboot (2016)

The Raaz horror franchise has conventional elements of tension and dread from the very first installment. Emraan Hashmi was seen playing the role of a ghost in this 4th installment of the series, and says that the shooting location was enough to send a chill down his spine. To promote his movie, Emraan and the entire crew that included Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora in lead roles had reportedly visited a haunted house in Bandra, Mumbai and said that they did feel an unwelcome presence in the area.

Bipasha Basu In Alone (2015)

The story is of conjoined twins who are later separated by surgery and fall in love with the same person. When one of them dies, she returns with a vengeance to ‘punish’ the other sister. Both the roles of the twin sisters (and the ghost) are played by Basu as a double role, and she totally wowed the look in this horror-love story.

Amitabh Bachchan In “Bhootnath Returns” (2014)

Better-known as Mr. Kailash Nath in the prequel “Bhootnath”, Bachchan the Ghost returns to the human world in the sequel, to scare children but that becomes a disaster. Upon his friendship with Akhrot (played by Parth Bhalerao), he then strives to give peace to all the ghostly spirits so that they can leave for the spiritual world.

Whether you enjoy horror movies or not, these characters are certainly some of the most memorable supernatural characters, Bollywood has produced in a while. Let’s hope that we get to see more celebrities take on such unconventional roles in their movies.
