In the Memoriam Segment, Bollywood late actors Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor were commemorated at the 90th Academy Awards Ceremony for their contribution to the world of cinema.
Well, we are glad that India’s two finest actors were featured in the list.
Not only Bollywood but the entire world were saddened by the sudden news of Sridevi’s sudden death in Dubai on 24th February 2018. Sridevi was the first female superstar of the Indian Cinema, to be honored with Padma Shri. In 2012, English Vinglish film was marked as Sridevi’s return to movies after a break of 15-years, where she worked with the French actor Mehdi Nebbou.
On the other hand, Shashi Kapoor was ill and wheelchair bound for years and he passed away on December 14th, 2017. He was familiar with International Cinema and has starred in several Merchant-Ivory films of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, among them, were- The Householder, Shakespeare Wallah and Heat and Dust. One of his last films with the same production house in international cinema was, In Custody in 1993. He was also felicitated with the Padma Shri Award.

Our Bollywood stars praised Oscar and thanked them for honoring our finest actors in the Memoriam segment. Among them, Rishi Kapoor tweeted after the Oscars and remembered the two Bollywood stars. He thanked Oscars for honoring and he expressed how thrilled he was when he saw his father’s name Raj Kapoor as the executive producer of the show.
It surely is an emotional and proud moment not just for the Bollywood fraternity, but also for all their fans across the world. Farah Khan tweeted ‘teary-eyed to see #Sridevi being featured in the Oscars IN MEMORIUM’. Even Varun Dhawan tweeted about the same saying, ‘so amazing to see the #oscars pay respect to #shashikapoor and #sridevi #Oscar90’. There were many other stars who thanked Oscars for this segment.

Besides Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor, Om Puri was also felicitated at the 89th Oscar in 2017; Indian born British actor Saeed Jaffrey was also paid tribute in the Memoriam segment during 88th Oscar in 2016.
Fans too expressed their gratitude towards the Academy Awards for including Sridevi and Shashi Kapoor in their Memoriam segment.
