The latest buzz around town is that actor Sushant Singh Rajput has turned down Rs 15 crore that he was offered to endorse a fairness cream. It is being said that Sushant was required to shoot for 6 commercials for the same over a period of three years. While there are no official statements to confirm the same, we do know that Sushant is not the only actor who has refused to endorse those fairness creams.

Earlier actor Abhay Deol had slammed all the Bollywood celebrities who endorsed fairness creams. He asked the stars to be more responsible and use their celebrity status to make a difference rather than make people believe that only fair is beautiful. He had openly slammed stars like Sonam Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan for endorsing fairness creams.

Actress Kangana Ranaut who is known for speaking out her mind not just for her rights but also on social issues too turned down an offer to endorse a fairness cream. She brushed off rumors that said she was offered Rs 2 crore for endorsing the same. She had also said in one of her interviews that she never understood the concept of fairness and had no regrets about turning down the offer.

Another actor who clearly showed his dislike for fairness creams is Randeep Hooda. When he was asked to be the face of a fairness product for men he refused it stating that he does not believe in the obsession with fairness and he finds it discriminatory.

Swara Bhaskar feels promoting fairness products is like promoting low self-esteem and racism

The feisty Swara Bhaskar too was approached by a similar skincare brand about two years back but she refused to endorse it and said that she the obsession with fair skin needs to be discouraged and only promotes low self-esteem and racism.

While Kalki Koechlin had made a statement that she would love to endorse a cream which could make her darker instead!

In a country where we are different beautiful shades of brown, it’s time we stop obsessing about fair skin and be comfortable in our own skin!
