The upcoming Bollywood sports flick “Gold” starring Akshay Kumar has been making quite a buzz ahead of its release. In the film our very own Khiladi Kumar will be seen depicting the character of Tapan Das, the assistant manager of the national hockey team of a newly independent India, that went ahead to win the first Olympic gold medal for the country.

Adding fuel to the already existing anticipation around the movie, Akshay Kumar recently took to his twitter to share a video, showing the making of the character of Tapan Das, with the caption: “My quirkiest character ever! Here’s how we made him…”.The video shows Das as a quirky, moody alcoholic- the elements adding a bit of fun to the nuances of the character. Needless to say, these quirks will make the movie more of an exciting watch for the fans. In the very video, Akshay describes his character as unique, owing to the eccentricities ingrained in his nature. He says “Tapan is not a goofy, humorous character. It’s his quirks that make the scenes funny”.

Apart from the characteristic nuances, the video also captures the physical transformation of the actor into his character. “We added a moustache, a dhoti, with a jacket and a differently-styled hair-do for the character” says Akshay in the making video. We also get to see some director-actor bickering in this behind-the-scenes montage, where Akshay and director Reema Kagti engage in a light banter. After Akshay finishes giving us his insight about the character from the perspective of an actor, Reema Kagti too gives her take on the lead character as the director of the movie, as she says “The person that inspired his character is very controversial. Scheming, unpopular, argumentative, but at the same time, knows the game really well.”

Looks like the whole procedure of making this film has been equally demanding and exciting for everyone involved. Slated to release this 15th August, on the 71st Independence Day of India, this movie will take the audience back in time, in the year 1948 when the historical win took place. The film will mark the debut of TV actress Mouni Roy on the big screen. Apart from her and Akshay, the movie also stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Kumar Singh in pivotal roles. Going by the increasing hype around the movie and the recent video showing the making of it, Gold seems almost ready for the tough match at the Box Office.
