Here’s Why Divyendu Sharma Likes To Experiment With His Roles

Divyendu Sharma would choose a good role over a fancy car anyday!

Divyendu Sharma made his Hindi feature film debut in 2011 with Pyaar Ka Punchnama. He is known for not working with the same director twice but with Batti Gul Meter Chalu he broke that rule and did the second film with Shree Narayan Singh after Toilet Ek Prem Katha.

Speaking to Hot Friday Talks, Divyendu says that the reason he did not do the sequels of Pyaar Ka Punchnama was because he does not want to limit himself to comedy. He was offered the films but he had to make the tough decision to say no he says. Post Pyaar Ka Punchnama, he was also mostly offered scripts where they wanted him to do comedy. Even though some of these offers came from big production houses he had to say no even though it was a tough decision saying no to big money!

Divyendu Sharma plays a completely different character as compared to Pyaar Ka Punchnama in Baatti Gul Meter Chalu

Divyendu loves to experiment he says, he feels that without experimenting an actor is limiting himself. He does not want to limit himself to one genre. Divyendu who plays a completely different character in the recently released web series Mirzapur on Amazon Prime says, “It’s not just comedy, I would have done the same thing if it was for a romantic hero or action films. The freedom of an actor comes from experimentation.”

His role as Narayan Sharma in Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, also made people notice him and in Batti Gul Meter Chalu too he played a different role of a middle-class young entrepreneur, his role in the film was appreciated by the audience and the critics as well.

Hailing from a middle-class family in Delhi, Divyendu is in no hurry to make a quick buck but he’s very clear that he wants to be remembered for the work he does. He says it’s more important that the audience remember him as a good actor rather than remembering what fancy car he owned!

Divyendu, who has worked on his first web series with Mirzapur, feels that for an actor it really doesn’t matter what medium he or she chooses. “Today lines are blurring between all mediums. If you are doing good work, then you do get noticed,” adds Divyendu.

Getting noticed he sure is and with an attitude like that, Divyendu is sure headed towards greater things! We wish him all the best!
