2018 was truly an eventful year for Sonam Kapoor. Not only did she get married this year but even on the professional front, she is doing pretty well. She has been named by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India as Person of the Year for 2018. This does not come as a surprise because she has always been very vocal about animal rights and protection of endangered species.

You all must be aware that Sonam Kapoor is a vegan and praises being vegan for animal rights for the same cause and keeps animal skins out of her brand of handbags Rheson. According to PETA India’s Associate Director Sachin Bangera Sonam never hesitates to help animals in any way that she can. PETA wants everyone to get inspired by her way of life and try to adopt them.

Earlier in 2016 Sonam was named the PETA India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity and was also awarded the Compassionate Business Award next year for her cruelty-free handbags. She has also in the past urged the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate change not to revoke the ban on dissection of animals in university life science and zoology students. She also asked for a state-wide ban on Manja which was causing eagles to entangle in them and die. She also donated “kind kites” to children which helped prevent injuries from Manja. She has also always been very supportive of PETA initiatives like “Adopt – don’t shop” and asks people to help animals in distress.

Considering that PETA India’s motto is “Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment or abuse in any other way” then it is quite just to give this award to Sonam Kapoor because her actions have continuously proven that she believes in this motto and does whatever she can towards fulfilling the mission.

The award has been previously received by several eminent personalities like Anushka Sharma, Sunny Leone, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, former Supreme Court Justice KS Panicker Radhakrishnan, and actors Kapil Sharma, Hema Malini, R Madhavan, and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Her initiatives truly make her deserving of this award and we hope to see her continue to excel professionally and work for the cause she believes in and help animals in distress and inspire more and more people to be like her and look out for animal rights and protect them.
