EXCERPTS

Tell us a little more about Vodka Diaries

Vodka Diaries is a story centered around a club and few incidents that happen around there. I play Ashwin Dixit who is supposed to investigate and solve it but it’s not just about that. It is also about his personal journey. It’s much more than a murder mystery, it’s about human emotions and that is something that is very interesting about the film.

What genre of film do you enjoy doing the most?

I like working in films with good stories it doesn’t matter what genre, for me the story has to be interesting and the character I am playing has to be interesting so for me the genre is irrelevant.

Kay Kay Menon likes working in films with a good story

The films that are being made these days are content driven, how does that make you feel?

It gives me hope at the same time I would not jump the gun. I would say that a certification of change only happens with consistency. If this change remains consistent for the next five years then I would say ok the change has happened.

Having said that some films are also star driven but the content is weak, what do you have to say about that?

I believe in peaceful co-existence. My whole problem is only when a lot of disparity comes in, as long as the audience patronise both bad cinema and good cinema good luck to them! But let me tell you that good cinema is good for health for both mental, physical and emotional health. I would advise that they should watch more of good cinema and patronise it so more good films are made.

How has your journey been so far? Are you doing the kind of films you like doing?

My journey has been pretty ok. I have lived my life the way I want to live it so I have no complaints. As far as films are concerned most of the times I do films that I like doing and for the fact that I need to do good cinema but sometimes I do films just for the money as that is also important.

What’s your take on the web series?

I see web series as the future provided we don’t ruin it like television. Having said that theaters will still exist but it’s an outing experience.

What is that one incident while shooting Vodka Diaries that you remember and laugh about?

This film has been great fun shooting for.I was involved in each and every aspect of this film. Mandira Bedi plays my wife in the film and she’s a poetess and I am supposed to make fun of her shayari so I wanted some bad shayari. I asked the lyric writer Alok Srivastav to write a few lines of a bad shayari for the same. He came up with 3 – 4 of them but all of them were what you call good shayari! The poor guy just couldn’t do it because what he thought was very bad was actually really good shayari! It was like telling a good singer to be besura!

What are your upcoming movies?

My next films are Phamous and Firki. There is still time for Firki to release, Phamous is based in the Chambal region. There are few more due for release which I can’t talk about right now.

We at HFT wish him All The Best!
