“I know I will always be remembered as one of the leading faces of Indian cinema”- Kangana Ranaut

For the first time, a woman has more to do in life than being in love with a man in Simran

She stands strong and firm in spite of all the controversies, the open letters, the haters, etc. nothing seems to bother her at all. She has risen above all that and looks like all of it has only made her stronger. When asked by a fellow journalist about how she’s doing, she replies, “Majja ma!” So what is it that keeps this new age Simran going? In a conversation with HFT Kangana Ranaut bares it all:

About Simran

Simran is a film about a criminal, not a crime, it’s about how a life is changed because of a mistake one makes and how a pure spirit can get manipulated by desire. When someone makes a mistake, their life changes but they do not change as a person. That’s what interested me about the film. Kangana had the same screen name in her debut film, Gangster too so how has her life changed from the Simran in Gangster to the Simran today? “Gangster was an important film in my life and it did change my life, just like the reel Simran in my forthcoming film Simran, I was a commoner walking the streets then Gangster happened and changed my life but the Simran in reel, unfortunately, doesn’t have that magic moment in her life,” informs Kangana.

Women in Bollywood have always been shown crying for men like they have no life beyond men. For the first time, a woman has more to do in life than being in love with a man in Simran.”She has desires to eat at good places, wear good clothes etc. Hansal Mehta’s films are great but a little serious so I added a little fun element,” adds Kangana.

About Feeling Like An Outsider

Since she’s the first actress to speak out about nepotism in the film industry, it is but natural that we ask her if she has ever felt like an outsider in the industry. Kangana confidently says that she is a part of the industry and known as the leading face of Indian cinema. “I have done significant work here and won many awards for the Hindi film industry, broken box office records. I have got recognition all over the world, so how can I feel like an outsider. I am an integral part of the film industry,” says Kangana.

Handling Failure

She may be known as the Queen of Bollywood but it hasn’t come easy, she’s had to face failures too in life as well as work. Rangoon has been one of her worst films but she says she learned a lot from the failure of Rangoon. “I was a disturbed by the failure but it was a reality check for me. After where I came from, a small town in Himachal and then tasting success, my expectations were very high and this had become a vicious cycle,” adds Kangana After the failure of Rangoon she realized that this needed to stop. She’s braver today and has built a beautiful house for herself in Manali. Kangana feels that even if her films fail tomorrow, she has things to fall back on. “Today I have the freedom to take failures and if my films do well then I take that as an added bonus. I know I will always be remembered as one of the leading faces of Indian cinema and after this nothing matters. Failures have a way of making you braver; Rangoon’s failure did that to me. The worst had happened so nothing can bring you down when you are so down,” laughs Kangana.

On Directing A Film

She’s got credits for writing in Simran and will soon be turning director too with her film, Teju.“After achieving what I had focused to achieve, and achieving those goals, I thought what next? And that’s when I realized that I want to do films that will communicate directly with the audience. I want to have the freedom to make films as I want in my life, it could be one film a year or two or year or then even one film in two years,” says Kangana. She’s very proud of more women taking charge in the industry. She’s glad that there are more women directors, camera persons, producers, etc.

Teju will go on floors in December this year and will be filmed in the Himalayas. The film is a children’s film informs Kangana and is expected to hit the theatres in 2018. “Though I love kids, it’s very difficult working with kids,” adds Kangana.

On Her Choice Of Not Doing Films With Established Actors

She was offered Sultan with Salman Khan but she decided not to do the film. She feels that whenever she has worked with an established actor, her films have not done well. Kangana Says,“ Take Katti Batti for example. It didn’t do well so that’s the reason I like to stay away from it. I want to do films where I play the main lead. I don’t regret refusing big films; my films have done great business too.”

One Thing She Would Like To Change About Herself

“I would like to change the fact that I take things way too seriously; I should not take everything too seriously. I reach sets also ahead of time. I like to do things to perfection and sometimes I feel I should relax a bit.” However, she says she has no regrets because she is in such a great phase of her life.”People want an easy life but the truth is no one’s life is perfect, everyone has some problem or the other in life, no one has an easy life,” says Kangana.

We second that! Just take a chill pill. Wishing team Simran Best of Luck!
