It’s a busy day in Bollywood as everyone from fellow actors to thousands of fans are congratulating Shahid Kapoor on his dad-to-be status. The news comes as not a big surprise from the very-much-in-love couple given that Mira Rajput has earlier too stated that she would like to be a parent again. But before we move on and say another day, another good news in Bollywood, here is something worth appreciating. Shahid and Mira may be the first amongst Bollywood couples to truly represent millennial outlook when it comes to announcing sensitive news such as an impending baby arrival. Here the couple seems to have taken a leaf straight out of Hollywood culture, where it is a norm to announce parenthood in creative ways. So, yesterday soon as the news about a possibly pregnant Mira Rajput began doing the rounds after she was snapped by paparazzi, Shahid did the next best thing. He took to Instagram and posted a picture of her toddler daughter Misha against a backdrop of a bunch of balloons. The graffiti written with chalk said: Big Sister. The message was loud and clear – Shahid and Mira are going to be parents again and instead of keeping the news under wraps they are announcing it to the world in style. The style, howsoever cute it may be, though sadly does not have a precedent in Bollywood.

In Indian celeb circles, the common practice has been to remain tight-lipped and even keep the world guessing on what may be happening in an actor’s life. it may be noted that big stars such as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan announced their to-be-parents status very late and then too they followed the cultural practice of letting the elders in the family announcing to the world about the good news. So, in their case while it was Amitabh Bachchan who took to Twitter to break the news. Even more secretive than the Bachchans was actor Aamir Khan who did not let the world get the wind of the fact that he and wife Kiran Rao were expecting a baby through a surrogate. In fact, Aamir was so tight-lipped that the press got to know about the news only when one fine morning boxes of chocolates with a note arrived in press editors’ office, catching them by a rare surprise. In the recent past, the only one who offered a refreshing take on pregnancy was Kareena Kapoor who was seen throughout her expecting period, instead of going into hiding as most Bollywood actresses have done in the past.
So, while we may not be yet be totally going out like celebs in the West such as Khloe Kardashian who posted a picture of her bare bump or Beyonce who shared a curated pregnancy shoot to announce to the world, it is still nice to see Shahid-Mira proudly sharing such landmark moments from their life.
