“We celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi at a nearby Krishna Temple in Kasaragod and I created the Hanuman vector in 2015 to use it on the flag during Ganesh Chaturthi. Generally we use “Om” on the flag, but that year my friends wanted something different and that’s when I created this” says Karan, who had been a fine arts student at the Rhythm Institute of Fine Arts and had later taken up a course in 3D Animation. Acharya is now employed at an animation company and says, “I often use YouTube to learn about new tools and software for animation.”

The creator of the new age Hindutva political symbol in India, Karan Acharya didn’t even know when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his name at a campaign this year, as “the pride of Mangalore” before his friends called to let him know! “I was shocked and extremely happy. I watched the video of his speech later to find that he had mentioned my name more than once. It was a great honor for me” says Acharya. He had even created a pencil sketch portrait of our PM as a gesture of gratitude after this.

Quite a few people raised voice against the apparent angry expression of his Hanuman portrait. “While drawing, I never imagined, people would think of it as an angry face, I’d rather say, this picture has an expression of attitude, not anger. Anger can be expressed with more strokes near the eyes and with an open mouth, we can create a fierce look.” Karan explains.
