Developed under the scheme of Tamilnadu Innovative Initiatives Scheme (TANII), this app contains information about more than 150 tree species. It is a storehouse of information for tree-lovers and has everything you want to know about trees that you can grow on your garden, backyard or on your farms. Among the principal aims with which the app was developed, one most important motif was, to increase the green cover of the state, which is right now calculated at a 24.16% of the total geographical area of Tamil Nadu, but according to a recommendation by the National Forest Policy in 1988, the percentage should have been 33%. Another main aim towards building this app was to provide the right kind of information to farmers involved in agro-forestry as well as individuals passionate about home-gardening regarding the right kind of plants suitable for the state, the right kind of post-plantation care needed and the right techniques of plantation etc.

The mastermind behind the idea of this app is Sudha Ramen, and the idea of this app had struck her while she was still studying at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, situated in Dehradun. The information available either in books or passed on through word of mouth for generations was not enough according to her. A lot of information is available on the internet, but are not used by the real people who are actually in need of it. So, this app was developed by her, with an aim to bridge the information gap and bring it to the phones of every person who really needed it.

Have you not been in such situations, when you are overwhelmed by some beautiful and bright flowers at a place and wished to plant the same in your gardens, but you are not aware either of the name or the species f the plant? Worry not, use the Treepedia app now, and as the name already suggests, it’s no less than a Wikipedia of trees! Lovely job Ms. Ramen!
