What is the greatest surprise you could receive while having lunch with someone? Maybe a surprise cake, free dessert, drinks on the house, bumping on a long lost friend? Or, if we go by movie standards, maybe you could end up with a ring at the end of your champagne glass or hidden in the pizza as a proposal by your partner. But, would you really think of having a wonderful oyster pan roast and almost biting into a rare pearl? Well, in our usual life, probably not. But that’s what exactly happened to this New Yorker sitting at Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminus just having a casual lunch with his friend. This lucky, lucky man was identified as Rick Antosh from Edgewater, New Jersey, spending an ordinary day till something extraordinary happened and he won a lottery out of the blue!

Turns out, the oyster pan roast that Rick ordered wasn’t only immensely delicious but contained a pearl inside it! Yes, you read that right, guys. As CBS News later reported, it was no ordinary pearl but rather one that was worth thousands of dollars. What Antosh thought to be a tooth or a filling or maybe even a broken part of a kitchen utensil happened to be a black dot, which, on confirmation by the chef, was declared a very rare pearl. What are the odds, right?

Even the restaurant’s chef was in a shock after witnessing this miracle. In his 28 years of professional life as a chef, this was only the second time that he had come across such a pearl hidden in an oyster. Rick Antosh, you lucky man! Imagine biting into the best Oyster Pan you have ever ordered and not only getting a delicious lunch but also a pearl which is worth as much as 2.8 lakhs! Is that even possible? Well, before hearing this story, we would have strongly disagreed. However, Antosh has taken the unexpected decision of not selling it anytime soon even though it costs as much as it does.

Do you know what is the probability of finding a pearl in an oyster? It only happens once in every 1000 oysters. It’s called ‘rare’ for a reason. Next time you go for lunch, you know what you are ordering. Who knows, you might just get stumble upon a pearl in oyster dish as well!
