If there are Oscars for countries, Turkey might be the winner of the ‘smartest place in the world’. Did you ask why? Well, the Turkish Government has recently made sure to finally ban plastics in their own clever way.

Turkey has always been known for its overrated ignorance when it comes to promoting a healthy environment. But, Turkey has it all sorted now, with the plan of reverse vending machines proposed to be set up across all shopping malls by 2021. These machines with accept your plastic bottles to recycle them and in return will provide you with credits or cash, as per the design. With this step by 3 major municipalities, Turkey seems to have gained a good ground and this initiative by the Government, might change the entire scenario for the better in Turkey. With more amounts of cans and bottles that would go for recycling, the roads would look cleaner, and plastics wouldn’t be dumped here and there. That is a relief for the environmentalists in Turkey.

With a rank of 108 in the ‘Environmental Performance Index’, Turkey has been totally out of touch with recycling and reusing. But, as we see now, various municipalities are working towards this change and hopefully, Turkey would be filled with such vending machines in the next two years. The Turkish Government aims for small changes like 35% of waste management but a little change is definitely better than no change at all!

From 31 million tonnes of waste produced annually, Turkey needs to plan their new ideas efficiently. But, the smartness that Turkey has shown is commendable. Not everybody is willing to participate, but getting credits in your public transport card has attracted majority. Anyway, it’s a win for the municipalities working towards the cause. If 80 million people work towards this cause, bless our souls, Turkey might emerge out as the ultimate protector of the environment!

Turkey’s novel move should be an example for every other state in the world

Guess it’s time our Government to restart the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ policy for people who are totally not bothered about recycling otherwise. If this is launched in India, people would definitely go for it, even if that means missing metros during office hours. Anything for extra credit points, isn’t so? This doesn’t only facilitate a cleaner and greener environment but also makes sure your metro card never runs out of money.

Maybe for this, Indians would finally get rid of plastics and promote a pollution free environment!
