Pop culture has been in vogue for the greater part of human history now, perhaps from the time when Andrew Warhol popularized the pop art form. Kerala’s Chikkoos Tours and Travel’s (run by Ambadi Travel) owner Sheril seems to agree to what we say. The owner has taken up responsibility for an adult bus that does the rounds in the streets of Kerala with a fascinating exterior exploding with a motley of flashy colors, the colors of rising sexual appetite and an equally jazzed up interior (neon lighting, a blasting music system and a disco light chandelier) meant exclusively for college students. The porn starts playing peek-a-boo from the walls of the bus are indeed an inextricable part of the popular culture by which we live, sleep, eat and drink, although we deny it!

The idea of an adult bus is not outrageous at all, if you have watched the movie Shortbus you will know what we are talking about. The bus makes no attempt to conceal the tabooed reality that is a basic fact of our existence. Sex and porn are taboos when people talk about it openly but certainly not when they are engaging in either behind closed walls because it’s better to live in denial than talk about roaring issues which overwhelm us.
The bus has caressed quite a few curious eyes. If we can romanticize 50 shades of grey and embrace it with open arms, then this shouldn’t be surprising at all. The bus offers very interesting tour packages to places like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mysuru etc. Porn star Keiran Lee had taken to Twitter to express how “impressed” he is by this idea. The fact that Sheril considers porn stars a part of pop culture is reinforced by the fact that he is also the proud owner of several Avenger’s and Pirates of the Caribbean themed buses.
