After getting the heat from his Congressional hearing in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica controversy and much debate about the weak data privacy features of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg seems to making amends. And that too quickly. This comes as a welcome surprise after his obscure answers to questions from Senators.

Admitting that he did not have clear enough answers about data control, Zuckerberg unveiled a new Facebook privacy control called “clear history” at the social media company’s annual developer conference.

The tool will allow you to see information about the apps and websites you have interacted with, and you will be able to clear this information from your account. Zuckerberg compared the new tool to the option of clearing cookies in a browser, which he said can hamper the user experience, as people may have to reconfigure items.

Facebook said it will take a few months to build the update, adding that the company will work with privacy advocates, academics, policymakers and regulators to get their input on the new approach.

The feature is one of the most significant measures taken by Facebook to increase privacy controls for its users following the Cambridge Analytica reveal that the data company had harvested 87 million users’ Facebook data.

Along with this, Facebook also announced the launch of a new dating app. Facebook is adding a dating layer to its main mobile app. The profiles look similar to other mobile-focused dating apps like Tinder, with full-page profile photos. However, Facebook’s take on dating is more community-focused, with integrations for the events and groups you are a part of on the platform.

Tech companies are under intense scrutiny about how they protect customer data after Facebook was embroiled in a huge scandal where millions of users’ data were improperly accessed by a political consultancy.

Mark Zuckerberg seems to be taking his New Year Resolution for 2018 very seriously. He had pledged to fix the problems in Facebook. And if his resolution was not enough, the recent data leak controversy and his embarrassing Congressional hearing were a good reason to start fixing the loopholes on Facebook.
