When in doubt, build a statue!

Remember how we used to play “Statue!” when we were young and in school? A game where all the players stood still, not even daring to blink, as the point went around inspecting everyone? Well, looks like the Indian Government is playing a real-life tweaked version of the same.

The only difference? The statues here are huge sculptures- ranging from anything made of stone or desi ghee. Yeah, you heard the last part right!

The fad started from Sardar Patel’s Statue of Unity, that is 600 feet tall and has taken up a stinking 3000 crores rupees, all in the name of increasing tourism. Wonder if it would have been better invested in building living spaces and procuring food for the millions of starving people in the country. But, probably, not right? Because the government is always right! Funnily, service and parking are so terrible at this location, that we wonder when we are going to get the 3000 crore back in our treasury again.

The next monstrosity, umm sorry, next statue is being built in Rajasthan and is supposed to rise up to a massive 351 feet. It is a Shiva statue. The structure is nearly complete and is supposed to be revealed in March this year. In a country where weed is illegal, we worship the god who smoked chillum and loved his ganja the most, by building him a massive statue. Might as well legalise marijuana and earn some tax money.

The latest in this game of statues is Goddess Brajeshveri Devi. She is said to have been injured by the demons during a fight and was rejuvenated by the gods with the help of desi ghee. Interestingly, her statue is to be built completely of clarified butter and it is already being touted that the butter from the idol can be used to cure skin ailments. Ironic

In fact, the entire idea of building a statue of a female goddess might be considered as laughable in a country where women aren’t allowed to enter temples because they are ‘impure’ creatures. But then again, who is listening to that when it comes to legends, right?

However, in this game of statues (pun intended), the politicians are quite on point. Guessing the next one is going to be a huge Modi statue? Because he is quite worship-able at thus point of time, isn’t he? Maybe, now the other politicians should up their game. After all, their ego seems to get quite a stoking when giant statues are built in the country.
