Well, Dakshineshwar, one of West Bengal’s busiest Kali temples have a huge rush throughout the year. It has been way too difficult for the policemen out there to control the traffic, the people and the stalls in that chaotic area. But, it seems like the difficult days are gone because yesterday, on 5th November, the skywalk of 380 meters was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself!

Now, if you do not know what a skywalk is, needn’t worry! We are here to explain exactly that. A skywalk is a covered bridge mainly created for pedestrians which connects two buildings together; in Dakshineshwar, the two buildings being Dakshineshwar Railway Station and Dakshineshwar Kali

Temple. Well, now you know how important this bridge is going to be.

Skywalks are meant to provide you with the utmost comfort while you are walking. Like, you don’t need to climb mountains or fight with other devotees if you have a skywalk at your service. Similarly, this new skywalk has eight staircases, no less than fourteen escalators, and four elevators which would facilitate people of all ages. The pictures of the skywalk show that it isn’t just some random one, but it is heavily decently decorated too. You wouldn’t feel suffocated or claustrophobic but might want to visit Dakshineshwar more and more due to this amazing initiative by the Government.

When you thought the Government has done enough, we are here to bombard you with another great news. This skywalk would also contain the desired shops for all devotees visiting the temple. For the heavy traffic, the lanes have been segregated into motorized and non-motorized lanes for a better journey and huge comfort. The structure of the skywalk has been done in a very basic manner. It isn’t extravagant but follows the simple rule of two legs supporting an enclosed tube-like structure! However it is, it sure does look great and attract a lot of audience who aren’t very devoted to God in general.

We are really happy that such an initiative has been taken by the Government, and one of the busiest places in Kolkata would finally get some good relief and look brilliant too!
