Recently another storm shook the world on Twitter. This time it was for a model advertising for a razor company. For those of you who might have missed the news, an American Razor company, Billie started a campaign called ‘Project Body Hair’. The motive of this campaign was to acknowledge female body hair.

To face things straight, body hair is common, and yes, even women have them. There have been many ads on different media of razors, hair removal cream, and waxing strips. But if you have ever noticed, for years we have been seeing female models shaving their hairless legs or armpits. We have been so used to the fact that we hardly questioned, what is the need of shaving a perfectly smooth leg?
For some weird reasons body hair for women have never found a place anywhere in the public glare. Now that this company tried acknowledging that, the model who donned a hairy skin was met with abuses on Twitter. Each time I think I have seen all hypocrisy, Twitteratis present something new. If anti-acne soaps and creams ads can show a face full of acne, if a toothpaste or toothbrush ad can begin with yellow teeth and bad breath, why should there be a problem if a razor ad shows a woman with her natural body hair?

How many of us ladies have not been asked at least once in our lifetime, “Hey, when did you last wax your arms?” or “Wax your arms and come back to the civilized world?” It is funny how hair on men’s arms are perfectly normal, while women face a backlash even if they have a stubbly growth of hair on their arms.

The campaign by Billie is really a refreshing one, and it is time the world starts accepting women with body hair. In a more exciting realms of situation, Adidas had roped in Swedish model, Arvida Byström. She modelled for the sports merchandise company with exposed hairy legs. As this could be the best news for the fashion and sports world, the misogynists attacked soon. Byström soon received ‘rape’ threats on Twitter. Whoa! What a progressive world – one which is not ready to look at a woman’s natural body hair but are ready to get into the most unnatural and inhuman form of sex without consent.
