Zakirism – Why Zakir Khan Is People’s Favourite Standup Comedian

The 'sakht launda' is having it all, and remains one of the best in standup comedy!

Guys claim they feel that he is one among them, and yet he remains one of the rare standup comedians to get a standing ovation in a stadium full of people for a solo show. He is one of the masses, and yet there is something about his skill that sets him apart from the other emerging and established standup artists.

Zakir Khan brought glory to the small town simpleton boy who yearns for respect in a big city. His Sakht Launda is based on the philosophy that anyways no girl is going to heed you, at least keep your honour intact by rejecting them yourself.

A first time flyer, a boy who buys iPhone to show off the device, a Delhi guy who takes his chances with a South Delhi girl, these and other life sketches hit the stands with home runs.

Zakir Khan has also endeared himself with the masses with his own poetry. Not only does he write his jokes, but also writes poems in Urdu, that have come to become anthems at poetry festivals like Rekhta.

Zakir took a one-year course in radio programming at ARSL. He then moved to Jaipur for an internship in February 2009. He initially faced many apprehensions from his family for having dropped out of college and moved into a different space. He managed the situation and avoided any conflict.

His ability to laugh at himself and bring out social scenarios in a subtle yet effective manner might leave you feeling uncomfortable for a second. He speaks in Hindi, unlike other urban comedians, and this is one of the factors that makes him connect with the youth.

Watch this young turk as he takes on the world with a laugh.
