Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, commonly called as PCOS or PCOD is a women only endocrine disorder caused mainly due to hormonal disorders. However, many studies and researches over the past few years have not been able to establish the correct cause of the problem, it is very important that every women should understand about the disease, so that they could get a timely diagnosis and treatment.

What Is PCOD?

Studies estimate that around 10 to 15% of women in their child bearing age gets affected with PCOD and the astonishing fact is that they might not even know about it. PCOD is one of the leading cause of infertility and duet to its various and diverse range of symptoms gets difficult to be recognized at the first instance.

Women who gets affected with PCOD produces more than normal male hormones. This hormonal imbalance causes many complications in women’s affected like skipping of menstrual cycle, causes infertility, promotes excessive hair growth on the face and body and baldness too. Long term complications and neglected can cause further severe health issues like heart diseases, baldness and obesity.

It affects the ovaries in women. The condition is named so because of the enlarged ovaries that contains multiple small cysts – that’s why called polycystic. As stated earlier that the exact known cause of PCOD is still unknown, those affected have reported to have numerous abnormalities. However, there are light traces of genetic evidence for the cause, but nothing specific is there to define it.

What Are The Symptoms That Specifies PCOD?

PCOD happens in women with the onset of puberty. The first signs of the problems begins with disruptions in menstrual cycle. It might be irregular or women might face skipping of cycles too. This irregularity leads to the lack of ovulation and thereby infertility in women.

Secondly, the growth of male hormones leads to excessive hair growth in the face and body and male pattern baldness. Also, due to the excessive growth of male hormones the skins turns oily leading to acnes and pimples on the face, back and chest.

Weight gain is another common symptoms that has been observed in women with PCOD. Increased risk for developing a metabolic syndrome leads to abdominal obesity in women.

Women with PCOS have increased risks of developing type 2 diabetes and possibly heart diseases too.

What Are The Natural Remedies To Cure PCOD?

PCOD is a complex condition and the means to treat and cure the hormonal imbalance naturally, may not be the same for each women. The old adobe – ‘one size fits all’ does not works with PCOS. Take Control Over Your Diet

A specially designed diet can manage the symptoms of PCOD and improve the conditions. Changes in the diet can take control of the hormone imbalance and maintain in having a timely and proper menstrual cycle. More of whole foods like legumes, nuts, fruits and vegetables are a must in the diet. Processed foods should be avoided under all circumstances.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for a women’s good reproductive health. Women suffering with PCOD have lower levels of vitamin D in the body. Foods like mushrooms, egg yolks, fatty fish and sunlight are the best sources and should be added to the diet.
