So the release date for Shahid Kapoor’s Arjun Reddy has been set. The film releases on 21 June 2019. Arjun Reddy is the story of a young and successful man, who belongs to the medical profession but leaves it after a heartbreak. Arjun Reddy is a short-tempered house surgeon who takes to drugs and drinking when his girlfriend is forced to marry someone else.

The original film in Telugu featured Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role and was directed by Sandeep Vanga. The Hindi remake stars Shahid Kapoor but will be directed by Sandeep again and the title of the film in Hindi too remains the same.

Did you know that Arjun Kapoor was also being considered for the same role earlier? But the director of Sandeep who directed the original Arjun Reddy had Ranveer Singh and Shahid in mind. Shahid was always his first choice and finally, it is Shahid who is doing the role. That’s because there were many Hindi filmmakers who were interested in remaking the hit Telugu film.

For all those who are wondering why Shahid has been sporting the unkempt, Devadas kinda look, with long beard et all, here’s why; In the original hero of Arjun Reddy, Vijay Devarakonda sported a similar look for the film in keeping with the character he played. He had dishevelled hair and sported a beard so Shahid too wanted to stick to that as that goes well with the character. longer time to grow his beard. Even though Shahid was given an option of using a fake beard for the look, he wanted to make it look more real by growing a real beard.

Shahid has already started preparing for his role as Arjun Reddy and is said to be observing the nuances of medical professionals. He seems to be taking his role rather seriously which is not surprising because we all know how professional and dedicated he is when it comes to his films.

Tara Sutaria, who makes her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year 2, has been roped in for the female lead opposite Shahid. Janhvi Kapoor was the first choice for the same but since she was busy with Dhadak she said no to the film. The film is expected to go on floors soon and will wrap up the shoot by the end of this year.
