There is a deep connection between drama and Bollywood, don’t you agree? Be it a song like Tera Yaar Hoon Main, from the film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, or scenes like Dan mourning over Shiuli’s death in the movie October. We have listed such scenes that made us cry or gave us goosebumps.

When Sanju Hugged His Father Outside The Screening Hall.

Many of us loved the way filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani portrayed the affection between Sanjay Dutt and his father Sunil Dutt on screen in his film Sanju. The heart-wrenching moment when Sanju, full of panic and stress, hugs his father outside the screening hall, it left us in tears.

Jauhar In Padmavat Gave Us Goosebumps

There were many controversies around this movie. The glorified Johar scene gave every viewer goosebumps. Deepika played the role of Rani Padmavati and she along with other ladies jumped into a large fire.

Dhadak’s Climax Was Not The Happy Ending

One day, Parthavi’s(Janhvi Kapoor) brother along with his group comes to meet the family. Parthavi gets excited and decides to go out and buy something from the market. Madhu(Ishaan Khattar) is not convinced and asked her to stay back, but she doesn’t listen. And even before she enters the building, Madhu and Aditya are thrown from the balcony by her brother.

When Sehmat Was Pointing A Pistol At Her Husband Iqbal.

Emotionally disturbed Sehmat, a role played by Alia Bhatt in the movie Raazi, was left with no option but to kill her husband who got to know that she was a spy. The helplessness was visible in Sehmat’s eyes, but she did not have any other option.

The Song Tera Yaar Hoo Main Brought Tears In Our Eyes

A song that features on most of our playlists, Tera Yaar Hoon Main from the film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has brought many of us to tears, especially because of the bond Sonu and Titu share and Sonu is leaving the wedding ceremony. After watching the song, did you not miss your best friend?

When Choti Tabassum Denied To Receive The Dead Body Of Her Son, Shahid.

The scene from the movie Mulk, when Choti Tabassum refused to hold the dead body of her son, Shahid who joined hands with a terrorist group to organize a bomb blast, was bone chilling.

When Grief-Stricken Dan Mourns Over Shiuli’s death.

October was an underrated Bollywood movie. It was a romantic drama film, featuring hotel management intern, Dan, role played by Varun Dhawan, who takes care of his colleague Shiuli unconditionally. Suddenly one-night Shiuli’s lungs collapse and she died. It was tough watching the grief-stricken Dan mourning over Shiuli’s death.

What’s a Bollywood movie without some singing and dancing? A Bollywood movie without singing and dancing, kind of feels incomplete. While some films stay on in our minds, it’s some songs and some signature dance moves from the films, that become etched in our minds forever.

These signature moves become a part of every wedding, and every happy get together with family and friends. We’ve listed some of the dance moves from recent Bollywood films that are endorsed by every chacha, chachi, mama, mami, bua, phupa, bhaiya, bhabi, munna, munni etc. etc., during weddings and family functions.

Varun Dhawan’s First Class Moves

In the recently released period drama, Kalank, Varun Dhawan showed us some really cool moves in the song First Class. The song was an introduction song for Varun’s character Zafar. Like always, Varun proved his dance skills and gave the audience a dance move to remember. First Class is a foot tapping number composed by Pritam and sung by Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan. The dance was choreographed by Remo D’souza.

Zingaat Moves By Janhvi Kapoor And Ishaan Khattar

Zingaat from the Jahnvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar starrer is a part of almost every party. While the song and dance moves in Dhadak is very popular, it was the original Marathi song from the movie Sairaat from which Dhadak was adapted, that became immensely popular. The best part is the dance is that it’s a freestyle move which even non dancers like me, can easily pick up and go all wild!

Khalli Balli, When You Dance With Aggression

Ranveer Singh plays the evil Allaudin Khilji in Padmaavat. At an interview during the promotion of Padmaavat, Ranveer told us how traumatised he was after playing the character of Allaudin Khilji and he would not want to play such a character again as it left him completely drained. There are no signs of being drained in the way he dances to Khalli Balli. He does the entire dance in character, one can see the aggression and energy all throughout the dance. It is said that the dance steps were apparently inspired by American rock music legend, Jim Morrison.

Well we don’t know how far that is true but what we do know is that the dance moves will go down in history!

Pinga, A Twist To A Traditional Marathi Dance Form

The dance moves by Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukon in Pinga from the movie Bajirao Mastani is something many women have tried copying. Though the dance form is a traditional Marathi folk dance, choreographer Remo D’Souza has given a classical twist to it. Priyanka had some difficult but interesting moves in this one.

Ghoomar, All About Twirling And Flowing Dresses

Ghoomar is another traditional dance form, this dance form is performed by the women of the royal families in Rajasthan, besides being performed new brides when they are welcomed into their marital homes. The shoot of Padmaavat started with this song, it was the first sequence to be shot. The dance is not as easy as Deepika Padukone made it look, like the name suggests, Ghoomar literally means to twirl round and round. This dance involves some difficult moves, where one needs to twirl round and round in circles. Not a wise dance move to choose, if you don’t want to embarrass yourself by falling flat on your face!

Jag Ghoomeya, Bhai’s Very Own Style!

Jag Ghoomeya from Sultan has some dance moves which if practiced will surely lose those extra kilos! The dance move in Jag Ghoomeya is an unusual one. The song is picturised on Salman Khan, and he can be seen taking a turn, falling on the floor and doing thumkas while he’s lying down in the ground! Guess who thought of the step? Yes it was bhai himself. It’s ekdum bhai ishtyle and fun!

Hud Hud Dabangg, Making A Style Out Of Nothing At All

Bhai gave us another signature move in Dabangg. Only he can pull off a move that involves nothing but props like a shirt collar, pant pockets and the belt! Yes, all it took was bhai moving his belt up and down in this song, and that became a much loved dance move! Like the Air Supply song says, “Making love out of nothing at all,” we could say Bhai makes a signature dance move out of nothing at all!

This title track has always been an introductory song for Salman in his Dabangg franchise, but unlike its prequels, the song in the third franchise comes at a crucial juncture of the story and will also feature Sonakshi Sinha in it. Salman recently announced that filming on Hud Hud Dabangg, is complete. We will have to wait till December to see what new move bhai brings to the song in this one.

Badtameez Dil, No Badtameez Moves In This One

In Badtameez Dil from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ranbir Kapoor’s energy levels are on an all time high! His dance moves were compared with Shammi Kapoor’s moves in the song Aaja Aaja and Baar Baar Dekho. While we do agree the energy was the same as his grand uncle’s, Ranbir brought his own unique style to the dance. The song is peppy and makes your ‘badtameez dil’ go all out and dance to it.

Though many new dance moves have been discovered and there will be many more to come, Madhuri Dixit’s moves as Mohini, in Ek Do Teen from Tezaab, and Chane Ke Khet, from Anjaam, will forever be loved by any generation. Madhuri’s moves made many hearts go ‘dhak dhak’ and still do even today.

Do we really need a special day to dance? Hell no! Just put on our dancing shoes and play these numbers and go all out!

Action.

Thriller.

Adventure.

We have grown used to watching movies of these genres. Such has been the flood of movies with the typical genres that even some pretty interesting ones got lost under them. Every movie can try to stick to formulas and not dare to move beyond the mundane, but there are few that do.

We bring you 4 such unique and unusual movie genres-

Psycho Biddy

You may have come across a rare movie that belonged to this genre that was a rage back in the 60’s. Old women all decked up with gothic styled make-up, a lot of melodrama and a lot of shrill action and fights was nothing short of a revolution in movie-making.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Sweet Charlotte are a couple of good examples of this genre.

Mid Pie Western

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZEy9I6hrVE

This is a genre that finds its origin from Western movies but worked its way all the way to the country of Australia. With a dramatized enactment of each and every scene, the cultural similarities between American Wild West and Australia was a subject of fascination for a number of directors.

The Kangaroo Kid, Quigley Down Under and Rangle River are prime examples.

Absolute Film

Now this genre is as unusual as film genres get. The genre involved nonrepresentational films which were similar to abstract paintings and put focus on experimental and formal elements for a really unique experience.

Films like Rythmus 21 and Opus IV were the defining highlights of this unique genre.

Nudist Camp Films

Perhaps, for the first-time ever nudity came into consideration to be used in movies, this genre had featured nude women, with a few men within the frame who were obviously ignored. These movies supposedly demonstrated an educational inclination, the features of sun and a lifestyle which was nothing but naturalist.

Nude on the Moon, Elysia and Garden of Eden were the highlight featurettes of such a genre.

So, we have these 4 unusual movie genres for you. How many have you heard about? Do let us know.

Movies can be very powerful. And when it comes to Bollywood, the Hindi dialogue baazi, mixed with strong emotions and some hard-hitting background, can lift your spirits and raise your hope even when everything seems lost.

Over the years we’ve found some great inspiring movies thanks to the filmmakers for making such masterpieces.

Let’s check out 7 of the best motivational movies we’ve shortlisted for you to watch:

Chak De India

This story of a coach’s fight of making his team, Team India by overcoming their diverse backgrounds, by learning to use everything that life hurls on them as a secret weapon is truly motivational.

Lakshya

‘Be the best in whatever you are doing’ – is the biggest lesson that we all took from Lakshya. Remember Preity Zinta’s father (MK Raina) tells Hrithik Roshan that it doesn’t matter what job you do… the integrity lies in the perfection you put in it’s presentation.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Be it its title track, or little Milkha’s journey or even this particular scene for that matter, the film inspires in every scene. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag makes you want to hit the road and achieve something.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Hrithik’s character is the perfect example of this new workaholic generation. Watching him would make you want to apologetically reach to that friend or your relatives you ignored because of work and never called back again.

Lagaan

Lagaan motivates you in the best way possible. Nothing is impossible is what the film teaches us; ain’t that enough to fire up our motivation? If a bunch of impoverished farmers can humiliate the British Empire, why can’t we accept challenges that life throws at us and battle it out?

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

As TEPK deals with the much-pertinent problem of open-defecation in India, the story itself is highly motivational. Akshay’s character pledges to bring toilets to his village even if his wife doesn’t come back, saying “Ab biwi vapas aaye na aaye, sandaas to laake chodunga iss gaav mein,” is powerful and endearing.

Neerja

Last but not the least for sure, watch Neerja. How this 23 year-old flight attendant’s quick thinking and dedication to her job saved the lives of those on board is extremely inspiring.

Board games are always fun especially when it’s pouring outside and you have a gang of friends come over for an evening of board games and some ‘garam bhajias’ and chai! Board games have always been a special part of my childhood something we looked forward to every afternoon with my dad and mum, sitting around the fireplace enjoying the games in the cold winters. Our all-time favorites were Scotland Yard and Monopoly.

While we enjoyed playing the board games as kids, these days many of the board games have come alive in the form of movies! The most recent one is the upcoming film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle that releases on 29 December. While all of us who love board games cannot wait to watch the film, there are a few more films that have actually been adapted from a board game. Take a look

Battleship

Battleship

Battleship is a classic two player game played on ruled grids on which the players’ fleets of ships are marked. The locations of the fleet are concealed from the other player. The objective of the game is to destroy the opposing player’s fleet. This game was adapted into a movie by that same name starring Rihanna, Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, and Liam Neeson.

Ouija

Ouija
Ouija

The Ouija is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words “yes”, “no”, “hello”, and “goodbye”, along with various symbols and graphics. It uses a small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic called a planchette. Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words. It’s also known as a spirit board. No wonder then that this game has been featured in a number of paranormal movies. The one noteworthy was a teen horror that released in 2014 by the same name.

Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy role-playing board game. The game has inspired a number of movies, but the one worth a mention is the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons starring Oscar-winning star Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch.

Clue

Clue also known as Cluedo is a three to six player murder mystery game. The game was adapted into a film with the same name starring Madeline Kahn, Tim Curry, Michael McKean, Lesley Ann Warren, and Christopher Lloyd.

It is no hidden fact that Bollywood has never been able to come out of certain boundaries that it has readily created for itself. With Bollywood movies being of a strict shape, certain storylines haven’t changed since ages as well. Now, the fans of Bollywood are well aware of certain facts and figures that will be present in every movie. Some of the basic formulas that Bollywood directors would always introduce in movies are listed below:

Karans And Arjuns Always Get Reincarnated

Whenever you see the hero getting killed, worry not, he'll be reincarnated
Whenever you see the hero getting killed, worry not, he’ll be reincarnated

If Bollywood ever thinks of remaking Harry Potter, chances are Harry would be called the reincarnation of Voldemort in the first three movies. There’s no other industry like Bollywood which makes every movie based on supernatural elements such as reincarnation. From ‘Mehbooba’, ‘Karz’, ‘Karan Arjun’ to ‘Raabta’, reincartion needn’t be logical, but must be one of the main topics of major Bollywood movies. Even so, we didn’t expect SRK’s character to reincarnate into a robot in ‘Ra.One’, but it did!

Love Story But Wait…

While SRK and Kajol reunited in Dilwale, the concept pretty much remained the same
While SRK and Kajol reunited in Dilwale, the concept pretty much remained the same

Okay, so we know what Dilwaale Dulhaaniya Le Jayenge’s concept deals with? The very famous Amresh Puri, the dad, doesn’t want his daughter Simran to get married in London, or what they called ‘pardes’, but they have lived all their life in London itself! This love story between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol happens to be full of distortions and ‘lost love’ moments! Yes, Bollywood loves Shakespeare a bit too much, and puts his idea of a family-strife in a love story in almost every Bollywood movie.

Also, ‘Dilwale’, the movie which could do as expected despite the #SRKajol again was also set up in the same ‘I can sacrifice for my family’ mindset!

‘Badla’ – In Search Of Revenge

Bollywood is so impressed with the theme of revenge that an upcoming movie has even been named after it, ‘Badla’. We say, very creative. The revenge drama in Bollywood dates back to the times when watching television was a miraculous event. Yes, revenge and Bollywood movies go hand in hand. And of course we can dedicate the entire Hate Story series to this genre!

A Love Triangle That Has More Than Three Sides

Tell me, which movie doesn’t have this theme? Do you remember PeeCee’s ‘Dostana’? Or Deepika’s ‘Cocktail’? Okay, what about ‘Barfi’? The best movies of Bollywood deal with love and three people falling for each other. Aren’t we bored?

The latest trend that is fast catching up is the trend of biopics and period drama. We only hope these become formulas in the years to come. Well, we haven’t gotten the ‘Kumbh mele mein bichhra huwa’ theme for a long time now, have we?

Have you ever experienced those hunger pangs when you watch certain movies? Well, I have and how! The most recent experience was while watching Saif Ali Khan’s Chef when he whipped up those delicious recipes. There are many such movies that talk about food and make you salivate. Here’s a list:

Chef (Bollywood) and Chef (Hollywood)

Both the Hollywood Chef and its Bollywood adaptation with the same name will give you serious food goals. While Saif Ali Khan in our desi version will make you want to try those delicious Rotzas, Jon Favreau’s pasta with pesto and Cuban sandwiches are something you would definitely want to try.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana

When it’s a Punjabi family running a restaurant you know what to expect! There is an overdose of food in this movie, the thick chicken curry gravy especially looks scrumptious. It also shows how people bond over food.

The Lunchbox

In the lunchbox, Nimrat Kaur and Irfan Khan’s love story begins with a tiffin box filled with home cooked food. You can actually get a whiff of the delicious paneer as she cooks it on screen. The film is proof that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!

Ratatouille

A brilliant concept about a rat who has the most sophisticated palette and how it is instrumental in turning an awkward looking garbage boy, Remy into a brilliant chef. The scene where Remy cooks his first soup is one of the best scenes in the films and the soup looks delectable too.

Chocolat

A mother-daughter duo open a chocolaterie across the street and slowly win the hearts of the people in the new town, they’ve moved into. The chocolates that they are shown making will leave you craving for some especially every time a piece of it passes Johnny Depp’s lips!

Spinning Plates

A documentary about three chefs, who are passionate about their cooking. From the backyard BBQs to the shrimp, miso etc. will make your stomach twist and turn with the want for FOOD!

Julie & Julia

This one is all about French cuisine and a whole lot of butter! Sounds sinful right? Wait till you watch her make the Bavarian cream in the film, Julie & Julia that stars Meryl Streep in the main lead is a drool-worthy film!
If all the talk about the food in these movies makes you hungry, get some food before you actually start watching them!

We do agree that a film is a director’s vision of a story. But while sometimes, as audience, we totally agree with his vision, there are also times we don’t. Hasn’t that happened to you too, when you feel the climax scene could have been different?

Here’s a look at some hit romantic films I watched recently, where I didn’t find the ending convincing enough; though overall the film was a treat to watch:

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Friendzoned Is An Act Of Cruelty

Friendzoning should be just made illegal. ‘Pyaar mein junoon hai, dosti mein sukoon hai’ just ruined a poor sweet guy’s life. Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor) wants to take his friendship with Alizeh (Anushka Sharma) to next level. But she rejects him as she only thinks of him as a friend. This one surprised us because it wasn’t a love triangle, at least towards the end of the film, and yet they do not end up together in the end.

Meri Pyaari Bindu – We Wish They Had A Convincing End!

We love happy endings in films, as Indians. Strangely, this one had an ending where everybody was happy, but not the audience. We came out of the cinema hall wondering and wishing the ending to be different. Bindu (Parineeti Chopra) and Abhimanyu (Ayushmann Khurrana), childhood buddies fall in love. But Bindu breaks up when Abhi proposes her for marriage. Years later, Abhi meets Bindu, who is now married and has a daughter as well. This couple definitely knows how to move on without holding any grudges, but the conversation in the climax was absolutely not-so convincing. We wish they had planned a better ending.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu – We Wish She Had Said Yes To Him!

This rom-com is such a cute film; until it reaches the end. Rahul (Imran Khan) falls for Riana (Kareena Kapoor), but it’s a one-sided love. Well, you win some, you lose some and that holds very true in one-sided love. Not like, love stories in films should always be ‘Guy meets girl and they live happily ever after’, but watching potential couples end up turning ‘just friends’ is kind of saddening, especially where one of them gets turned down. Worst is, the guy is still hopeful that the girl will return to him someday. We just wish Rians had said yes!

Why does suicide seem like a solution to anyone’s problem? Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) is an alcoholic and a popular singer. He falls in love with Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor), who too becomes a successful singer, thanks to Rahul. But Rahul commits suicide when he realizes that he has become a burden upon Aarohi because of his alcoholism. Well, couldn’t he have just taken his alcoholism seriously and got rid of it, rather than keeping his lover ridden in guilt of being more successful for the rest of her life?

Highway – Why didn’t they just omit the tragic climax scene from the script?

This Imtiaz Ali film was a unique love story but had a really tragic end. When we almost start thinking Veera and Mahabeer would live happily together in that small house in mountains, the unexpected shootout at Mahabeer just made us sob. We wish they had just thought of another climax. Both sleeping peacefully a night before Mahabeer’s death scene could have been the perfect end of Highway! Don’t you think so?

Tell us your take on the above mentioned films.

Private Investigator Charlie Townsend’s agency has gone international with a dozen Bosleys around world managing cohorts of highly skilled and trained Angels who outdo what regular law enforcement cannot. The movie opens with the signature masquerade honey pot deception, wigs, lassy legged girls in glitzy costumes who move like ninja to catch a money embezzler.

Unlike the two-part series that came in 2000 and 2003 respectively, where Daiz, Barrymore, and Liu had had a chemistry strongly set, here the Angels are assembled on demand for each mission guided by a Bosley. Which is played by Patrick Stewart, who’s supposedly be the first Bosley, which was then played by Bill Murray.

Naomi Scott, who’s a young systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, which opens a pandora box, which thus forms the plot for the new series of Charlie’s Angels with Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska as Angels. They are now under the tutelage of a Rebekah Bosley played by Elizabeth Banks, who has also directed this flick.

The plot goes on to add Naomi Scott as a circumstantial Angel who gets a piece of action in the crossfire between people planning to neutralize her and weaponize a new age energy technology that she helped develop.

If you are a fan of the prior series and are trying to see a continuation, then brace yourself. This is clearly a reboot and not a continuation. We get a completely new take on the nuances. Earlier Angels (Diaz, Liu, and Barrymore) were known for their martial art skills and swift moves to fight rouges without guns and barrels. But the 2019 Angels have completely upgraded themselves with guns, gadgets, and sniper rifles albeit with some non-lethal consequences.

The plot chronicles the world from Rio de Janeiro, Berlin to Istanbul chasing suspects and fighting saboteurs. Has the right mix of intrigue with inside job, ghost like assassins, high octane car chase and deceptive ploys.

“Don’t Call Me Angel” the soundtrack by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey add a peppy beat to the fights and drama.

Kristen Stewart’s childlike expressions and quirks adds perfect punctuation right between explosions and gun fights. The director in Elizabeth Banks doesn’t fail so bad, but neither does it keep your gripped like a James Bond movie.

Charlie’s Angels 2019 is a fresh attempt at rebooting a perfectly made installments. Judged by its own merits, it delivers a fun evening of entertainment, comedy and action.
