Everyone has been talking about actor Anupam Kher’s resignation as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India ever since the news of the resignation was out. There have been mixed reactions and the public has been accusing him of various things and also giving making it a political agenda and some even saying things like he resigned because the government stopped him from making a film on the Rafale deal and some just called him a kaamchor!

However, during Anupam’s tenure as a chairman of the FTII, there were many who were not very happy about him MIA and his colleague and another fellow actor, Naseeruddin Shah, who he has worked with in several films was earlier asked about Anupam’s work as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Naseeruddin had said that he could not comment on his work when he was hardly present and would only be able to comment about his work, if Anupam would be more active and spent more time at the institute!

Anupam too did not deny it and gave his not being able to devote enough time to FTII as his reason for quitting. Via his social media, he cited commitments to an international TV show for which he has to be stationed in the U.S. He sent a resignation letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, and said that due to his commitment to the show he will be stationed in the U.S. for nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019 and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years more. and given this assignment, it would not be fair to him, the students and management team, for him to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability, without being actively involved in the operations. Anupam who had replaced Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman at FTII in October last year also clarified about the same on social media

Anupam will be seen as former PM Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister, based on Sanjaya Baru’s book by the same. The film was earlier said to release on 7 December 2018 but postponed to 21 December 2018.

People probably tend to forget that he is an actor first and the rest follows later, so quite obviously he would choose his love for acting above everything else! But Anupam should not have taken the responsibility if he couldn’t balance both in the first place. That’s what I think, your views could be different. Write to us and tell us what you think.
