What Is Prasthanam All About?

Prasthanam which means Reign in English is a political thriller film and a family drama about politics and jealousy. The Telugu film starred Sharwanand, Saikumar, and Sandip Kishan. The film is the story of a politician and the complex relations prevailing in his family. Saikumar stars as Naidu, who rises from being a Panchayat President’s henchman to an MLA. Due to certain circumstances, he’s forced to marry his boss’ widowed daughter-in-law and a mother of two, a son Mitra and a daughter (Surekha Vani). Few years after this marriage, Chinna (Sandip) is born out of this relationship. Almost 25 years later, Chinna turns into an angry young man, who hates being sidelined by his own family. How this affects Naidu’s political life and how Chinna deals with his jealousy and Mitra’s dominance in politics forms the rest of the story. The film also exposes the network between politicians and businessmen.

In the Hindi version of the film, they have apparently made changes in the script to suit the Hindi audience. The Hindi version too will be directed by Deva Katta and the film is slated to go on floors in the first week of June. Prasthanam also marks the return of Sanjay Dutt to production after 7 years, after David Dhawan’s Rascals in 2011.
