Looks like Karan Johar’s upcoming movie, Student of the Year 2, will keep us waiting quite a long time now before we get to see the sequel to the movie that successfully launched the three young superstars of today, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra back in 2012. Initially the movie was slated to release on November 23 of this year, clashing with the release of Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30. But the latter’s release date got pushed further to 25th January of the coming year, allowing SOTY 2 a clear stage to run the show. However, it seems that January just was not meant to be as Karan Johar took to twitter to announce that the movie will hit theatres in the summer of 2019.

There are a lot of speculations about what is the exact reason for delaying the release of this upcoming movie from Dharma Productions. Multiple possibilities have been piled up by the insiders of the industry and it could very well be a combination of all of them that has led to the postponing. One of these reasons could be the release of “Thalaiva” Rajnikanth’s movie 2.0, which is also slated to release in November this year, not even a week after what the initial release date of SOTY 2 was scheduled to be. The legendary superstar’s upcoming release has reportedly pushed back the release of multiple movies in Bollywood, one of them being Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika.

Karan Johar, the producer of the movie took to his twitter on 30th July, Monday to make the official announcement. He wrote “There is a NEW DATE for #SOTY2!!!! The admissions are now in summer 2019!!! Watch this space!” and followed it up with another tweet, mentioning the new release date of the movie which is May 10th of 2019.
Later, the stars of the movie, newcomers Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria along with Tiger Shroff shared the same news on their Instagram, with the new poster of the movie that has the rescheduled release date on it.

Even though the wait got longer for the fans who were eagerly looking forward to this high school drama sequel, they also have a reason to be excited about the movie as ex-students Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra will reportedly join the fresher cast for a special cameo. The trio will apparently shoot for a song that will be featured during the opening credits of this movie. Looks like Karan Johar is right. The summer of 2019 is about to get hotter!
