Amar Kaushik’s horror-comedy “Stree” is the next anticipated movie among horror-movie addicts. The movie is based on the Nale Ba legend that had spread fear and panic among the neighborhoods of Bangalore in the 1990s.

The urban ‘Nale Ba’ myth goes far before Bangalore was known as a cosmopolitan hub of technology, nightlife and traffic. The legend describes a witch who would roam the streets at night and knock on doors. She would speak in the voice of a family member to lure the resident out. If anyone did open the door, it was rumored that they would die in the next twenty-four hours. As a result, people would write ‘Nale Ba’ on their doors (“come tomorrow” in Kannada) to ward off the spirit and save themselves. It was believed that the witch would leave seeing the writing on the door. As a result, 1 April was popularly known as the ‘Nale Ba’ Day in some parts of Bangalore.

Based on the fact that the movie is based on a ‘ridiculously true phenomenon’, the official 55-second teaser looks terrifying. The teaser takes us through an abandoned semi-urban area, and on the walls of each house is painted, “O Stree kal aana” in Hindi (o lady, come tomorrow) and a man chanting “yahaan koi mard nahi” (there is no man here). As the camera pans out, we see the shadow of a disembodied woman hanging in mid-air.

The movie has been written by D.K. and Raj, and will be starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Rao has posted the movie trailer on his official Twitter account with the caption ‘Stree ke bare mein zyada nahi jaanta hoon, bas sab kehte hain aa rahi hai woh’. On the other hand, Kapoor shares a picture of the movie’s clapper to announce the movie on her social media handle. The movie will be released on 31 August, 2018.

Shot at a small town near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, the movie is being produced by Dinesh Vijaan under his Maddock Films. The makers of the film had previously worked together for the movie Go Goa Gone.

Both Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao have lots of upcoming projects lined up. While Shraddha will be next seen in movies like Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Saaho, we’ll see Rao next in “Ek Ladki K Dekha To Aisa Laga” and “Fanney Khan”.

The movie’s teaser and first-look posters seem quite scary and we only hope that the film lives up to the promise it makes through these.
