If you’re a Hindi film buff then chances are you too have imagined dancing in the rain with your SO just like Sridevi did in Mr India! I definitely have, even though I might not have that height, ‘shakal-surat’ and figure like the gorgeous Sridevi, there’s no harm in dreaming those romantic, dancing in the rain, in those chiffon saree kinds of Bollywood dreams is there?

Come Monsoon, and everyone gets romantic irrespective of the Mumbai roads ka halaat! And those Bollywood heroes and heroines in typical Bollywood films only fuel our desire of dancing and romancing in the rains.

While the waterlogging might prevent us from going out during the Monsoons, the rains do not stop us from thinking of all the Bollywood rain songs possible! From Kaate Nahi Kat-te Yeh Din Yeah Raat to Tip Tip Barsa Paani or to the recent ones like Saawan Aaya Hai, Baarish and Cham Cham from the Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi, Bollywood sure knows how to romance in the rains! Times have changed but that Bollywood rain sequence remains the same!

Rain played a huge part in the story of Lagaan

In some films, the rain plays an equally important role as the muscle-flexing hero! Rain is the answer to everything from first romance to heartbreak! Hindi film directors are obsessed about the rain, after all, what’s Bollywood without baarish and the barsaat dance? It’s the perfect backdrop for action, accidents, romance, rape etc.

Take for example the film Henna where Rishi Kapoor drives to his wedding in the rain, and his car crashes and his jeep drops into the Jhelum, and he finds himself in Pakistan when he wakes up! Then there was Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan where the rains played a huge part in the film or Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai starrer Raincoat where the two former lovers meet on a rainy evening.

Ex-lovers meet on a rainy evening in Raincoat

Even though the rains have remained the same, there are some things that have changed over the years. In most of the older films, the female leads were almost always draped in plain chiffon sarees( mostly see-through!) while they danced away and got drenched in the rains. But in recent times, actresses like Shraddha Kapoor, who has done the most rain sequences in her films; ABCD 2, OK Jaanu, Baaghi has proved that one need not necessarily wear a see-through chiffon saree to bring out the oomph! while dancing in the rain with your SO.

Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor made sure no water was wasted while shooting rain scenes in Baaghi

Also what has changed is that the filmmakers and actors these days have become more aware and conscious of social issues like draughts etc. therefore when Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor had to shoot the rain sequences for Baaghi, they made sure that not much water was wasted trying to create the rains, with the rain machine, so they opted for natural rains instead! Most of the major rain scenes in Baaghi was shot in the natural rain in Kerala.

In contrast to the muck, waterlogging, floods etc. etc. that comes with the rains in real life, the rains in reel life can bring magic and change the entire plot of the film too sometimes!
