Director Shankar’s Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 has been on the lookout for a suitable date. In November 2016, it was announced that the film would release during Diwali 2017, the release date was then postponed to 25 January 2018 and the reason being given was that the VFX work would need some more time. The release date was then moved to 27 April 2018 but the latest news doing the rounds is that the makers of 2.0 are now looking at two dates; either the Independence Day weekend or Diwali this year.

But the only problem is that both these dates have been taken by two other films, Akshay Kumar’s Gold which is set to release on Independence Day and Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan which is slated for a Diwali release! This is not the first time that Rajnikanth’s 2.0 is clashing with Aamir Khan’s film. Last year too when the film 2.0 was slated for a Diwali release, Aamir Khan planned to release his Secret Superstar on the same day. When Aamir requested the makers of 2.0 to release their film on another date, they readily gave the slot to Aamir.
This time it is the makers of 2.0 who want a Diwali release and have approached Aamir Khan for the same, requesting him to shift the release of Thugs Of Hindosthan. According to some reports, it is being said that Aamir has not agreed to it so far, but there are no official announcements on the same as yet.

The Diwali slot for the release of films is what all producers and actors make a beeline for and Aamir is no different, he has a history of booking festival dates for the release of his films, his last film Secret Superstar was released on Diwali 2017, while Dangal released on Christmas 2016 and PK on Diwali 2014.
It will be interesting to see if Aamir is gracious enough to return Rajnikanth’s favour by letting him release 2.0 this Diwali!
