Javed Jaffrey’s song Meezaan is all set to make his Bollywood debut with the upcoming film Malaal, and its makers have now released the first song from its soundtrack. Called ‘Aila Re,’ it has been composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who also happens to be one of the producers of this flick. The music video of this upbeat track features some highly energetic dance moves from the debutant.

‘Aila Re’ has a blend of dhol music and electronic sounds that together give it a unique character. The chorus is its high point, even as it transitions into its thumping beats. The lines in this hook portion go, “Aila re, aila re, meri jawaani pe tu hai deewani re. Aila re, aila re, teri do aankhon ne di hai bayaani re. Aila re, aila re, gully kuche mein ghoom ke dekho, har dil mein dhoom ammi to.”

The song will make you reminisce the track ‘Malhari’ from Bajirao Mastani. It gains this character not just because it has been composed by Bhansali, but also because it has been sung by Vishal Dadlani and written by Prashant Ingole, both of whom were important components of the earlier song. There is even a Marathi rap portion in the middle, which has been rendered by Shreyas Puranik.

Malaal has been directed by Mangesh Hadawale, who is known for critically acclaimed films like Tingya and Dekh Indian Circus. This latest film is a remake of a Tamil movie called 7G Rainbow Colony from 2004. Its story revolves around two people with contrasting backgrounds living in a chawl, and what happens when the fall in love with each other. It marks the debuts for both the lead actors. While Meezaan is Javed Jaffrey’s son, Sharmin Segal happens to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece.

Malaal will be released in theatres across India on July 5.
