Ed Sheeran’s Mumbai concert: Everything you want to know

The English singer's second outing in India was exactly as magical as it was predicted to be

The much-awaited Ed Sheeran concert finally took place in Mumbai last night. Those who were present at the event won’t stop raving about it to you today. If you want to stay one step ahead of them, however, here’s a complete guide to what happened at the JioGarden in BKC.

The blue kurta

Perhaps the most pleasantly shocking moment of the concert was Ed Sheeran arriving on the stage dressed in a blue kurta. It was really refreshing to see the singer in such an avatar. And there was something special about this blue kurta as well.

Some eagle-eyed fans spotted that it had the word ‘Divide’ woven on it in Devanagari script. ‘Divide’ is of course the album which Ed Sheeran is promoting during his tour to Asia.

What he said

Ed Sheeran has come to India before, and it seems he had a pretty pleasant experience back then. Talking about his experience in this country, he said, “You know I have made no secret of my love for India, ever. It’s such a pleasure to be back in India.”

Ed also told fans present at the concert that ‘Perfect’ is his favourite song from among the ones he has written till date. This romantic ballad is a highlight from the album ‘Divide,’ and it has apparently been written by him keeping his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn in mind.

The playlist

‘Castle On The Hill’ was his opening act as expected, and Ed followed it up with ‘Eraser’ and ‘A Team.’ After that came the songs ‘Sing,’ ‘Bloodstream,’ ‘Happier,’ ‘Galway Girl’ and ‘How Would You Feel.’ Ed then went on to perform another hit of his, ‘Thinking Out Loud.’

And finally it was time for ‘Shape of You.’ The crowd went crazy when this song was played. Practically everyone at the venue was singing along. The concert ended with ‘You Need Me.’

Indian colours

Right before starting with ‘Shape of You,’ Ed went backstage and came back wearing a Team India shirt. The reason for this was unknown, but it certainly managed to leave the fans mighty pleased.

One more thing that fans appreciated was that the concert began bang on time. 7:30pm is exactly when the opening act, American musician Lauv, took the stage. And Ed went live at 8pm sharp. That’s quite commendable, and it also allowed him to fit in more songs into the concert.
