The genre of hip hop and rap has hit a new high. Rap had been a personal favorite of quite a huge number of music lovers and post the success of Gully Boy, Ranveer Singh has influenced the youngsters a lot to say their own story by weaving their words with beats. And yes, it has been a huge success. Not only do we relate to some of the rappers, but also we get addicted to it, so much so that we find ourselves hooked to the words of the song almost always.

The latest release in the world of rap has a curious name, something which was never heard of before. The singers of the rap too, have equally curious names, but we know how being cool and happening matters a lot in the world of hip hop. So, the song has been titled Skkrt Karenge and it has been sung by Emiway Bantai and Meme Machine. Before we get lost thinking why would a rapper choose to call himself Meme Machine, let us be clear on the meaning of the song’s title. “Skkrtkarenge” is the literal translation of skirting around various cities. That is what the very first line of the song promises that the two Uber cool rappers will be skirting around all the cities and give mind blowing performances.

Skkrt Karenge has already gathered as many as three million eyeballs on YouTube and why not? After all, the beats and music of the song do ring with today’s generation. Even though we may not be able to gauge the lyrics of the song initially, but after a patient hearing for three to four times, we get a hang of the lyrics too. The song has been penned by EmiwayBantai and Meme Machine and the music of this rap has been composed by Crazyvibe.

Skkrt Karenge weaves the tale of two struggling rappers who in the song trace their journey from a time when they were not famous enough to be booked for a show but now they are so famous that they cannot be booked by one and all. This is a song of pride and even though the song does spill out a quite a few harsh truths of the world, it is true that Skkrt Karenge could have been a slightly moderated in its truth slaps. After a point, it seems like these two rappers are more willing to show how proud they are of their achievements rather than telling the world their story.

This song, irrespective of its grand beats and some really good music, could have worked hard on the lyrics. There are parts which we like a lot like “aslipan aata hai beta andar emotion se”, and that speaks volumes about how being fake in your art will not let you achieve your goals in the long run. However, even if we can ignore the mysteriously covered face of Meme Machine for the purposes of coolness, we cannot ignore how the lyrics go “pucho zara kitni saari bandiyon ne Bantai ko feel kiya”. We wonder what all that was about.

Skkrt Karenge is obviously a favourite among the youngsters but is not worth the hype and could have been done better.
