Ikka has just released a new single titled Dope Ladka which also features the talent of Dr. Zeus. The only word that best describes this song is ‘generic.’ It’s got all the makings of a typical Punjabi track, including the characteristic rap, the tiring hip-hop hoopla and a cringy music video.

The song has been released via the Times Music YouTube channel, and has managed to grab more than 4 million views by now. This isn’t all that surprising since such songs somehow manage to catch the fancy of audiences on YouTube every time. Dope Ladka is also a Gaana Exclusive which means you won’t be able to stream it on any other platform; that is if you’d want to stream it in the first place.

The description of the song reads, “Dope Ladka is an amazing hip-hop number. It’s a mix of contemporary, catchy tunes and groovy beats.” Although pretty true, there couldn’t have been a worse way to describe the song.

Dope Lakda has Ikka singing at the top of his voice – almost screaming actually – and trying to pass it off as music. The lyrics have been written by him, and they go, “Dope Ladka. Bade ghar ka, badi gaadi mein karta hai fly. Saheli naal hai akkhan lal hai, 24-7 rehnda munda high.”

If these lyrics aren’t enough for you, we’ve also got lines like, “Meri bandi teri bandi se hot. Jeben dono bhari only gulabi note.” In fact, you should just listen to the song once to laugh at its incredibly awful lyrics.

Moving on, Dr. Zeus has been credited as the music composer of this song. He has made use of an archetypal template and shoved Ikka’s lyrics into it. There is nothing in this song that makes you feel that you haven’t heard it a thousand times before.

And then there’s the music video which has an even blend of Ikka flexing at the camera for no good reason, a Lamborghini, a placeholder girl, some club lighting and a whole lot of everything you’ve seen in Punjabi music videos over and over.

About his own track, Ikka has said, “Dope Ladka is an amazing number. As soon as I heard the composition, it just clicked instantly. I am sure my fans are just going to love it and will make it a huge hit.” Well, we guess the 4 million views are a proof that this is indeed true. But the eternal question that perplexes us still remains – why is such sickeningly mediocre music liked so much?
