After the success of “Mere Naam Tu” from the star-studded Shah Rukh Khan – Anushka Sharma – Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Zero’, the new song we have is “Issaqbaazi”. A variation of the Hindi slang word ‘Ishqbaazi’ or flirtation this is the much-awaited song that has Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan dancing together in the same frame as was eagerly anticipated in the movie teaser.
A loud light-hearted song that brings out the raw and rustic side of an otherwise glamorous movie, “Issaqbaazi” is sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Divya Kumar. The lyrics have been written by Irshad Kamil and the music has been composed by Ajay-Atul all of whom have written and composed beautiful songs for the Bollywood and Marathi movie industry.
In short, the song is all about how Bauua Singh (the character played by Shah Rukh Khan) is ‘destroyed’ in love. The lyrics of the song are in Bhojpuri (given that the story is set in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh) and it speaks of how Bauua considers himself to be the perfect lover and that nobody can match him. There are some references to Bauua’s short height as he is playing the role of a vertically challenged man in the movie and the romance of Mirzan-Sahiba referred to as the ‘English pari’ and ‘desi deewana’ – mixed into the dynamic song. Of course, there is a story as to why Bauaa Singh seems to be excited and is singing of love.
The music video begins with Babita Kumari (played by Katrina Kaif) leaning forward to kiss Bauua Singh, who is obsessed with the alcoholic Bollywood star. Overjoyed, he gives a fake speech about his importance and victory and breaks into the song. He performs some amazing steps in the second half of the song, seamlessly fitting into the role of a vertically challenged. Salman Khan is brought for a cameo role as well, and SRK and Salman perform the perfect ‘jugalbandi’ as they dance together to the song. There are folk elements added to the song as well, making it even more colourful and energetic.
“Issaqbaazi” offers a better view into the storyline of the movie, which revolves around a love triangle between SRK, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. To know more, we need to wait for ‘Zero’ to release on 21 December 2018.
