Yesterday marked the release of a new song from the soundtrack of upcoming film Stree. Dubbed Kamariya, this one is an item number sung by an ensemble crew of singers, but what will grab your attention more is the mind-blowing dance performance by Nora Fatehi in its music video. She was last seen in the video of Dilbar which is still topping charts in the country, and Kamariya is heralding one more potential hit for her.

Kamariya has been sung by Aastha Gill and Divya Kumar, while music directors Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya have added their own vocals to it as well. The song makes great use of electronic music, and even autotune, especially during its catchy chorus portions. Aastha Gill’s peculiar singing style is a perfect fit in this song, but credit is also due for the singing performance delivered by Divya Kumar, which is responsible for heightening the energy levels of this track.

The song’s hook is its chorus which goes, “Kamariya… Hila de hilla de. Hila de hilla de. Hila de hilla de. Najariya… Mila de milla de. Mila de milla de. Mila de milla de.” It’s got an extremely beguiling vibe to it that makes you want to keep listening to the song again and again. The lyrics, penned by Vayu, are generic in nature, yet they manage to make you smirk once in a while. Like the line, “Ho.. haye re mera dil le le. Haye re meri jaan le le. Badle mein tu thodi si, haan thodi si toh kamariya hila de” for instance.

Nora Fatehi moves her body without an ounce of inhibition. Her moves are free-flowing and filled with energy. The choreography captures the flavour of the song beautifully, and plays on its title, Kamariya by having Nora move her waist in the most enticing of manners.

Stree is being touted by its makers to be a ‘first of its kind horror comedy.’ It stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee. This film has been directed by debutant Amar Kaushik, but is backed by the spectacular writing talent of Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru, who have together given us gems like Go Goa Gone, Shor in the City, 99 and more.

Stree will be released across theatres in India on August 31.
