Last year was a blast for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, with hits like Mere Rashke Qamar and many more having made sure that his blissful voice reached millions on Bollywood music fans. The famous Pakistani singer has been on a roll this year as well. His fans have been treated to a number of excellent songs that have dominated the charts for long periods of time. Ishtehaar
Ishtehaar is first and foremost a brilliantly written ghazal by Charanjeet Charan. The words, “Mujhko padhkar woh aise bhool gaya, jaise kaagaz pe ishtehaar koi” easily resonate with those who have ever been rejected in love. And then there’s the excellent singing by Rahat Saab that brings out the sorrow from the lyrics. He is accompanied in this duet by Dhvani Bhanushali, who has made the most of this opportunity.
Sanu Ek Pal Chain
Now here’s a classic case of the student imitating his teacher. Sanu Ek Pal Chain was originally sung by Rahat’s uncle and teacher Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The new version has been created by Tanishk Bagchi for the soundtrack of the film Raid. And while this one is nowhere close to crafting the same magic, it does succeed in creating a romantic mood.
Tab Bhi Tu
October was a highly emotional film, and even emotional was this song in which a lover is pleading with their partner to stay with them even after death. Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics for Tab Bhi Tu have been sung with such intensity by Rahat saab, that they really manage to move you from within.
Dekhte Dekhte
Here’s yet another work of Rahat’s that’s based on his uncle Nusrat Saab’s hit qawwali. Dekhte Dekhte shrinks the original 25-minute masterpiece of a qawwali into a conventional 4-minute song, but it does convey some amount of satisfaction that the original is known for conveying.
Tu Meri Main Tera
Among the latest releases from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is Tu Meri Main Tera from the film Namaste London. This track has been written by Javed Akhtar, and has been composed by Mannan Shaah. This is an extremely emotional song that has been sung to perfection by Rahat Saab.
