Punjabi actor and singer Babbal Rai has for the first time collaborated with Bohemia for a song titled Mai Terra Akshay. This track has been composed by B Praak, while its lyrics have been penned by Jaani, making it the product of a super hit pairing. However, the song certainly disappoints.
Mai Terra Akshay is as generic as it gets. Firstly, the song is about a guy trying to impress a girl. Secondly, the overall music contains nothing that you haven’t heard before, and will easily blend with any other similar Punjabi hip-hop song. Thirdly, the singing style of Babbal Rai is again extremely generic as well and brings nothing fresh to the table.
The lyrics could also be described as objectionable by some. Judge them yourself – “Ni akhiyan te surma laake. Te chote chote kapde paake. Tu munde pattdi firdi Ni lakk da bhar ghata ke.” The rest of the lyrics of the song go, “Ni chupeya til vakha ke. Te ghut ghut jhapiyan paake. Tu munde patdi firdi. Ni lakk da bhar ghata ke.”
Coming to Bohemia’s rap, it’s just an extension of the same thought as the rest of the lyrics. And his lines are from where the song gets its name. These are as stupid as they come. They go, “Aaja dikhawan tenu chandni chawk. Main tera Akshay, tu meri Deepika ban.”
This song has been released by Humble Music via its YouTube channel. It was launched two days ago and has already grabbed more than 4.2 million views on the streaming platform. The music video for this one has been directed by Baljit Singh Deo. It’s the same affair that we’re used to viewing in every Punjabi music video these days. Flashy clothes, foreign locations, expensive cars and a model used solely for the purpose of eye-grabbing.
This is Babbal Rai’s second song of this year. Uche Uche Kad was his earlier video which was released 3 months ago by Speed Records. This video has grabbed over 11 million views to date. As for Bohemia, he has been doing a number of collaborations these days, with Punjabi artists. The breakthrough artist that he was back in the day, has been lost somewhere, and the lack of his spark from his earlier days is really concerning for fans.
