A new Miley Cyrus song called ‘Slide Away’ is out now, and the timing of its release is of particular importance. It comes right after the star announced her split with husband Liam Hemsworth, and its content clearly seems to be talking about her broken relationship with him. However, as you’ll notice after listening to it, the track has no intention of bashing Hemsworth in any way.

‘Slide Away’ is a straight-up breakup song. It’s got a grunge rock feel to it, which takes us back to Miley’s early days with her singing career, when she had flirted with rock music. The song is indeed melancholic, and lets out a gloomy vibe with its slow beats and piano portions. “I want my house in the hills. Don’t want the whiskey and pills. I don’t give up easily. But I don’t think I’m down,” sings Miley, apparently referring to Liam’s drugs and alcohol habits that are being said to be the reason behind their split.

Earlier this month, Miley Cyrus and Liam Helmsworth announced their split with a statement given to People, which read, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Miley is set to release her seventh studio album this year, in the form of She Is Miley Cyrus. There’s no exact release date in sight however. The first single from this album was released in June. Called ‘Mother’s Daughter,’ it’s a women’s empowerment anthem, which is accompanied by a bold music video featuring a number of cameos.

‘Slide Away’ hasn’t been given the music video treatment yet, but you can listen to the song in the space above.
