Cheesy romances form an important part of our guilty pleasures, as much as we are ashamed to admit it in public. Salman Khan’s next production titled ‘Notebook’ will be released soon, though we’re not sure that it resembles Nicholas Sparks’ book of the same name in any way. However, the movie is said to be a Bollywood remake of the Thai drama movie ‘Teacher’s Diary’. It revolves around the romance of Kabir and Firdaus, while the Thai original was played by Laila Boonyasak and Sukrit Wisetkauw. The first song of the romantic movie, “Nai Lagda” was released on 27th February 2019, which has received an amazing response from the audience.

“Nai Lagda” has been written, composed and sung by Vishal Mishra himself. Mishra has worked on a number of popular songs such as “Veere” and “Dagmag Dagmag” from the movie ‘Veere Di Wedding’, “Selfish” and “I Found Love” from ‘Race 3’, and “Na Chah Ke Bhi” from ‘5 Weddings’. The movie is supposed to be set in the valleys of Kashmir, where Kabir and Firdaus (played by Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan Bahl respectively) meet each other and start their romance.

Coming to the song itself, it can only be described as a lovely composition that describes the feeling of love. The lyrics can make you fall in love with the couple, who are never seen together – hinting at a tragedy. The use of flute, guitars, bass, sarangi, strings and brass perfectly complement the percussion, tabla and dholak. However, what truly makes you fall in the love with the song is the refrain “nai lagda dil mera mahiya”, which takes you to a different level altogether. “Nai Lagda” is shot in the gorgeous locations of Kashmir (where the story is presumed to be set in), with the use of soft colours such as blue, peach and green. This adds to the beauty of the song, which soothes your soul. The video ends on a heartbreaking note, where Firdaus is about to get married and Kabir simply looks at her longingly from the road.

In the murky world of cheap trashy songs, “Nai Lagda” is a breath of fresh air that gives us hope that melody still exists. Do listen to the song for its picturesque Kashmir scenes, poetic lyrics and soul-touching music – not to forget the subtle romance. ‘Notebook’ will be released on 29th March 2019.
