The world of cinema has seen so many actors moving from the realm of television to mainstream Bollywood movies. Mouni Roy is different because not only is she one of the best actresses in Indian television, but her debut will be alongside none other than Akshay Kumar. Romancing with the Khiladi himself especially on a romantic track in your very first movie is a big deal and we cannot stop talking about it. Gold is all set to release this Independence Day and we will be smeared not only with a healthy dose of patriotic values but also sizzling chemistry between these two actors.

The song, sung by Yasser Desai and written by Arko is a perfect commentary on the relationship shared by the two people, a tribute to the spirit of love and romance not just of theirs but of the whole wide world. Mouni looks ethereal, draped in a Bengali saree as she affectionately gazes into Akki’s eyes every now and then during the 3 minute duration of the song. Her radiance is accentuated by her sporting the classical “gajra” which her lover ties across her hair. And Akki himself is reluctant to let this riveting bong beauty go not just from his life but also from his arms, a fact that was made clear by a still of the song that was released earlier. What is another brilliant directorial touch is Mouni’s broken hindi which is heard briefly un one part of the song, not unlike the Hindi spoken by Bhaskor da from Piku.

Throughout the video the two partake happily in fun, loving chores symbolizing how they are the two parts of a whole, incomplete without one another – “jism main aur saans tu”. The song also foresees hardships and whether they are overcome or not, only time can tell. Naino ne baandhi is imbued with a slow soothing tune that makes the romance all the more vigorous and pronounced. What makes the video a fascinating watch is also the fact that the pairing is brand new and hence much anticipated.

Gold is the story of India’s first Olympic Gold Medal win in Hockey

Gold is a significantly different movie, in that it at least attempts to undo the cultural damage perpetrated by Western notions of what sports should be. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and directed by Reema Kaagti it attempts to recreate India’s victory in the 1948 Olympics for hockey, the most underrated national game ever. Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal and Vineet Kumar Singh also feature in this movie.
