Now here’s something you don’t see quite often – a decently made Punjabi song that does not bore you with its typical girl-meets-boy storyline and its ‘look at this beautiful girl’ music video. Ola Ola by Garry Sandhu comes as a breath of fresh air, as it audaciously breaks the conventions of the Punjabi music industry.
The song is a catchy one, and has a foot-thumping beat to it. There is some Sean Paul influence in the music and singing, but it does not overpower the main appeal of the song which is its beat. Music director Intense has done a wonderful job at making this song a memorable one.
Ola Ola was released on YouTube on March 31, and it has already managed to garner more than 2.1 million views on the website. Moreover, it has even made it to the Trending section of the site, and is currently sitting at the number 11 spot.
What’s unique about the music video of this track is that it has mostly been shot using a GoPro and a selfie stick. It has Garry Sandhu moving through the locales of Paris, camera in hand, singing his song besides unsuspecting people. A few reactions from the crowd are also worth watching.
The video has been brilliantly put together by editor Prince 810, and more than anything else, it echoes the big break that the makers have taken from the typical music video style which is being tiringly used by other singers from the Punjabi industry. Add to that the catchy song, and the whole affair becomes extremely enjoyable.
Garry Sandhu has been a big hit on YouTube in the past. Just a few weeks ago, his track 100 Percent had taken to the streaming website, and is now commanding over 6.3 million views. Another one of his songs, Dil De Kareeb is sitting at 9.5 million views, whereas his videos titled Kill and Banda Ban Ja have garnered 5.6 million and 44 million hits, respectively.
