Pad Man Music Review: A Sanitary Effort!

Amit Trivedi’s 5-song album for Pad Man is out now, with songs sung by stalwarts like Arijit Singh, Mohit Chauhan and Mika Singh. The R. Balki film which is based on a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India, is slated to hit theatres on January 26, so the songs have arrived quite early, but who’s complaining?

Aaj Se Teri is the first track, and is sung by one of Bollywood’s hottest properties right now, Arijit Singh. It speaks about the start of a new relationship. Kausar Munir has penned some really beautiful lines for this love ballad. The song starts off with a shehnai piece reminiscent of Trivedi’s Shubhaarambh track from Kai Po Che!, and adopts a soft tone later on. But the difference between both songs is visible, as this one is not as catchy as the other one.

The Pad Man Song is the one featured heavily in the trailer. Mika Singh has worked his magic in this one with his trademark charm. The song tries to make a superhero out of Pad Man, and indeed succeeds in doing so. The crazy guitar riffs mixed with a feisty chorus arrangement make it a highlight from the album.

Hu Ba Hu is the archetypal Amit Trivedi number. Sung by the music director himself, it stands out for its vigorous disco-inspired music more than anything else. Saale Sapne should be appreciated for the basic idea of the song. It has an inspired man gratefully cursing his dreams for giving him a purpose in life. Mohit Chauhan is his true self in this one, and stands out amidst the heavy music.

The album ends with Sayaani which has a folk-ish flavour to it. The ensemble singing talent in this one includes Yashita Sharma, Jonita Gandhi, Yashika Sikka and Rani Kaur. It’s the most catchy tune in the album after The Pad Man. To put it simply, Sayaani is the kind of song that you come out humming after watching a film.
