Looks like the creative juices in Bollywood are drying up fast these days as for the most part what Bollywood music lovers are getting right now are remixes of old hits. The newest release of the year, Poster Lagwa Do is no exception sadly. The dynamic pairing of Karthik Aryan and Kriti Sanon in the upcoming movie “Luka Chuppi” had already created some buzz among cinema goers for the movie. With the release of its first video song Poster Lagwa Do, the anticipation has rised undoubtedly. After all, no matter how much we frown at the abundance of remixes, we also love a repackaged hit song quite evidently, since this song has already garnered over one hundred thousand views on YouTube just after few hours of it’s release.

This number is a remake of the song with the same title from the 1997 Akshay Kumar-Urmila Matondkar starrer Aflatoon. The original song was rendered by Lalit Sen and Shweta Shetty, written by Anand Bakshi and composed by DIlip Sen and Sameer Sen. This version, rendered by Mika Singh and Sunanda Sharma sounds like every other average remake of an old 90s Bollywood song- a dash of EDM synth, hard beats and liberal use of vocal tapering just before the chorus to create an anticipation. Probably the part that stands out the most in the song is the earthy, powerful voice of Sunanda Sharma that brings a unique flavour to this new version.

The video itself also makes use of one of Bollywood’s tried and tested aesthetics, which is a greyish neutral setting with the people dressed in vibrant clothing to make a pop-out effect. As the song progresses Kriti and Karthik are seen busting moves along the lines of “Poster lagwa do bazaar mein/ Yeh khabar chhapwa do akhbar mein/ Ek ladka, ek ladki/Dono pagal ho gaye pyaar mein”, while they are being chased by their families, until a happy reconciliation comes where everyone is seen dancing.

The song then might be hinting at the storyline of the upcoming movie, which has been revealed to be about a television reporter in Mathura and how he falls in love with a self-willed, uncompromising woman. If we are to go by the song and the video, then we can expect a good old wine gifted in a new bottle type of plot. But to assert or deny this thesis, we will have to wait for a month. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Luka Chuppi is slated to release on 1st March this year.
