While the whole of Indian media was collectively losing their minds over Taimur, the youngest son of Saif Ali Khan, and his day to day activities, God perhaps decided that was not enough and threw in the gorgeous Sara Ali Khan, Saif’s daughter, and Taimur’s half-sister into the picture. With the upcoming movie Kedarnath, Sara is all ready to make her debut in Bollywood. But even before the film’s release, it is winning hearts through its music, especially with its latest track, Qaafirana. Released just yesterday, the music video of Qaafirana has garnered over 4 million views on YouTube alone so far.

“Inn waadiyon mein takra chuke hain
Humse musafir yun toh kayi
Dil na lagaya humne kisi se
Qisse sune hain yun toh kayi”

The song begins with these lines, already giving us a hint about the plot of the movie. After all, you can always trust Amitabh Bhattacharya to make his lyrics tell stories. And when his writing prowess is met with the musical genius of Amit Trivedi, you have something as soul-soothing as Qaafirana. The soft melody of the song compliments the blooming love motif between the two main characters as visualised in the video.

With the picturesque backdrop of the Uttarakhand mountains, the budding romance between the protagonists- a tourist and her guide- make the music video mushily appealing. If half the charm of the song lies in its visualisation, then the other half has been shouldered by the voice of Arijit

Singh. You can never really get used to what this man can do with his voice and this time he has made it possible to make a song sound like a low humming, without compromising vocal clarity, almost giving it an effect of a soliloquy. The voice of Nikhita Gandhi is just as serene as the scenic beauty on screen.

Qaafirana is a song that talks about and shows the first blooming of love between two individuals when they did not even see it coming. The track is a perfect pacesetter for the movie Kedarnath, directed by Abhishek Kapoor. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the main roles. Set in the background of the devastating Uttarakhand floods of 2013, this movie circles around the love between a Hindu girl and her Muslim guide. Under the extreme conditions of the natural calamity, their love is put under test. Kedarnath is slated to hit the theatres on 7 December 2018.
