It seems the makers of Saaho have managed to strike some kind of a deal with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, as at least one of their songs has been included in the soundtrack of the film. The composer trio had backed out of the film earlier citing the reason that they wish to be the sole composers on an album. Their song is called ‘Baby Won’t You Tell Me,’ and features vocals by Alyssa Mendonsa, Ravi Mishra and Shankar Mahadevan.

‘Baby Won’t You Tell Me’ is a sombre track that will remind you of the song ‘Khwabon Ke Parindey’ from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which was also composed by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. The lyrics, written by Manoj Yadav, are purely romantic in nature. The song starts with the lines, “Sapno ki raahon mein yun. Aaa tumse uljhein hain hum. Aab yun hi uljhein rahein. Suljhaye suljhein na hum.” The chorus however, could really have been helped by some more work. It can be called catchy, but not inspired. Alyssa Mendonsa has done a brilliant job with the vocals, while Ravi Mishra and Shankar Mahadevan have provided great support.

Back in May this year, Shankar-Ehsan-Loy had announced via Twitter that they have opted out of the film, as they do not wish other composers’ songs to be included in the Saaho soundtrack. “We are not comfortable doing that because we feel one composer retains the identity of the film. There’s got to be a creative thread that joins all the songs. We preferably also do the background score, but even if that’s not there, at least the songs,” they had said. However, with ‘Baby Won’t You Tell Me’ now in the album, there has been no explanation for the U-turn.

Saaho releases in theatres across India on August 30 in multiple languages.
